I was going to get a 6750, but now since the 8400 is out I am getting that. Anyways I don't currently have another 775 CPU to flash a mobo that doesn't work with the 8400 out of the box. So I am going to need one that works right away. Now, I've read around a bit and some say that the MSI P35 Neo2-FR can run 45nm on earlier bios versions, since v1.4. But when you check here (http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=prodcpusupport&prod_no=1261&maincat_no=1) it says since v1.6. Any ideas guys?

The last post in windwithme's thread on the Neo2-FR is from a guy running a 8400 on BIOS 1.1.

Yea I saw that. Can I trust what he said though? He has only 2 posts with no screen shots what so ever.

Actually Neo2 officially supports Wolfdale since bios 1.4. If you make a purchase now, most probably you would be getting board rev 1.2 with at least BIOS 1.4 installed. I don't think you should be worried with that. Most board should be able to boot with Wolfdales even with old BIOS.

I think the DFI blood iron is the best in the under 140$ class. I will probably be moving to that board + and E8400. The Biostar P35 that im running now is nice for $100 but it has no raid. Same deal with the DS3L. Also DFI bioses usually rock and have the most features, so ull probly end up tweaking even more out of ur chip with the blood iron.

Some guy in another forum said this...

I have the GA-p35-DS3L and it would boot up with E8400 even with very old BIOS.
I just dropped in a E8400 today, it will report as FSB800 with the old bios. All you need to do is get the latest BIOS from gigabyte (F8 beta), put it in a flash drive, get in BIOS, click on F something, and the Q-Flash will come up.

Can anyone confirm if you can boot up a 8400 with an old bios for the DS3L?

I assure you the P5K would NOT boot (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showpost.php?p=2726430&postcount=432) the e8400 out of the box.

This is scaring the crap out of me.... the MSI Neo-FR giving 225C!!! And burned also a piece of the motherboard. This was the motherboard I was going to get too since it's being said that it can boot into 8400 with no problems at all with the earlier bios. DAMN DAMN DAMN! Some say the P5K would boot 8400 out of the box, some say it doesn't so I'm stuck on that too. I don't know what to really get now...

i believe 0704 for p5k was supposed to support wolfdales (0805 hm)...my p5k came with 0603, many months ago.
@fdisker: how have you gone with clocking yr e8400 on yr p5k? may i ask?

...as for the "out of the box" question, it would be useful to know what bios you are getting with your new mobo wouldnt it? :para:

presumeably newer stock of older boards come with revised bios's but how do you know whether you got an old box or a newer box...

ds3r= out of box ready

quote from shamino

The overclocking, out of the box, no modifications as is, is stunning. FSB-wise, it climbed, high, up to 575MHz FSB! Right out of the box no frills overclocking, this board has a lot more potential under some modifications of course.

does crazy fsb too

That's not the Neo2-FR, that's the vanilla P35 Neo. Very different board from the looks of it. And I'm betting that the heatgun in those pics is in Fahrenheit and not Celcius.

If that's the only bad experience that you can find, then it looks pretty good, even if you're referencing a different board.

BTK, we are talking about it supporting the E8400 out of the box..

Why have you posted that three times in a row?

And if you are going to be using a quadcore in it, my buddy Gomeler has gotten his up to 515fsb on air with a Q6600. You just have to set the onboard jumpers to 333FSB.

ThatGuy16
01-26-2008, 06:38 PM
Thats very good, would you need to set those jumpers with a 8400? if you would happen to know

I should be ordering by friday, can't wait to see some results..

I have been having overclocking withdrawals with this x2...

[XC] DragonOrta

No clue about the 8400. The jumpers are right underneath the first PCI-E x16 slot, so they are easy enough to change. Just make sure that they aren't on 200fsb when you get the board.

Mine came with the jumpers set to 200, which resulted in a no-post with my Q6600.

Yea same here I should be ordering it sometime next week, hopefully monday. Then everything should be here by Friday. Then I will build my first PC ever and overclock my first CPU ever. Hoping to get at least 4.0 ghz with stock volts like some other lucky guys have gotten.

BTW, What build are you doing ThatGuy16?

Keeping everything in sig, just replacing the mobo/cpu

I was reading some reviews on newegg and some other forums, people that have bought the board this month are still recieving boards with 1.1 bios. Im worried something wouldn't work right

Well some say that it will boot with the 1.1 bios but I haven't seen someone that has been here for a long time confirm that. I really hope that it at least boots that way I can flash the bios.
