Well, I purchased a powersupply from another member on this forum and decided to take it out and test it. Well I took my P5K out of the box and mounted up my graphics card, my cheap 1.8V stick of ram, my E6600, and the stock intel cooler just to see if the power supply would come on. Well, luckily, the power supply brings the board power light on, the power supply fan comes on, the intel heatsink fan comes on, and the video card fan spins up but... I get no video. Okay, no big deal. I check all the power connections all the video connections, try to reseat the video card. Power on again, same result. I try several different times with the same result (sometimes I get the power on for a sec shutdown then power back on that I have read about from users on here). Okay, no big deal yet again. I turn all the power off and clear the cmos after turning off the power and removing the battery. Put everything back and still the same result. So, I decide, I'll try a different stick of ram. So, I put one of my crucial tracers in slot 1. Well the same thing this time except the ram lights come on, but don't show the buzzing activity of a computer that is really using them. Okay, that wasn't it, so back to the old stick. I put it back in and try each ram slot. Same result. Okay, starting to get more desperate. I swap the graphics card to the other PCI-Express slot and try the ram in all the slots in this configuration. The same thing happens every time. So, I swap the CPU to my quad. I try this with moving the video card around again and the ram around again. 8 tries, no video. Sigh...Last resort, I try my old GameXtreme. Same thing, 8 tries, no video. I have tried reset, clearing cmos, all things that I can think of. Anyone got any thoughts ? I'm stumped.

i only have power light on my motherboard, where you get the Ram light? Try different PSU?

Set the jumper on "clear cmos" and start it after that. I have to have the jumper set like that to get my board to boot...otherwise, it pretends to be dead - which is untrue.

you are using 2 sticks of ram right and hooked up all the power plugs on the MB?

No, I have tried two different sticks in all four different slots. Ram light is from the ballistix tracer, not from the board. I tried two different power supplies(both of which have plenty of juice; one of which I know to be good, the other was the purpose of this test). I hooked up the CPU power and the 24 pin power, and those are the only two I see on the board.

you only have 1 stick of ram in the board?I dont think the board will post with only 1 stick, try 2 identical sticks and see what happens.

Maybe the board is shorting to ground somewhere. Not sure where you are testing it.
Also do you have the power hooked up to the graphics card?
My 8800gts has a power plug on it.

Yeah, I have power to the graphics card(without this power plug the card will beep very loudly if you haven't ever tried it...). The board is sitting on a static bag on the floor, so I doubt it is shorting to anything, but I could be way wrong. Also, I've never heard of a board that will not post simply because it only had one stick in it, but I will certainly try it to see later today when I get out of work.

I would hook up the speaker to the board and see if it gives any error beeps.
If not I would remove all the memory and try again. If still no beeps and seeing that you have already tried a different cpu/resetting cmos the board is probably bad.

Well I tried two identical sticks of ram with both power supplies again and the graphics card in both slots again. So, Zanzabar posted in a maximus formula thread that the board needs to be grounded to the case in order to start... Is this true for this board too? Or is it true at all?

Did you try the method I suggested earlier? It seemed odd to myself as well - but it works.
