I am working on a friends laptop which is an Inspiron 1521. I came with vista, but the laptop is too slow to run it well. It also has some compatibility problems with a few games that he plays. I formated the laptop back to XP Pro, but we are having some problems with the hardware and drivers.
The laptop uses the Radeon Xpress 1250, but I can't find any drivers for it. Might I need a chipset driver? When installing any video driver the error window will say that it is not the right version and that the OS is different.
The audio is also acting up. I can't seem to install its driver as well. The audio unit is the Sigmatel Stac 92XX C-Major HD Audio.
I think the two problems are related. But I don't know much about a possible solution. :(

If you reformatted you need to get ahold of the chipset driver. That is always the first thing you install after you are up and running.
Secondly, you need a mobile graphics driver, or a modified desktop driver to work on a mobile card. For that, go here (http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool/). Download the latest ATI driver and use that tool

Thank you so much. Yeah I'm new to software differences between a PC and notebook. :( I installed the chipset driver, and the rest fell into place.
Thank you for your patience in assisting me.

No problem, the only reason I know about this stuff is because I have an Inspiron 1520 (in sig) so I've messed around with them a bit. The previous 1505 had an ATI X1400 card in it.
The 1520 is my girlfriend's but it is also my mobile Oblivion machine :D

To bad my friend picked up a AMD notebook with 2x512MB of RAM. I'm going to get him a 2GB stick, but I really wished that I could pin mod the CPU. I think it is a 1.6GHz model. Well at least he can now use it for college shortly. :)
