Hey guys!
Well...it seems that Wolfdale is a true monster, and we are getting back to the old P4 clocks one more :D
This was done by my fellow forum-member Asus-Commando, as he was testing his brand new E8500. Unfortunately, he doesn't speak english (and he created an account here only yesterday), so I'll be posting this story for him.
Testbed:
E8500 Q740A
Asus Commando - Bios 1604
Team Xtreem 2x1Gb DDR2 800 3-3-3
Noctua NH-U12F + Noctua fans
Windows open, room temperature ~10 oC.

All air, in the case, with Noctua fans.... Fortunately, we have a very cold winter this year :D
So this is my friend's story, he is very hapy about this CPU, and I can't wait to put it under Dice or LN2 :D
Wolfdale RULEZ :D

Plz do a post at 9.5x400 @ 9.5x450 which are reasonable fsbs for 24/7 use with only the required vcore

Thx guys :D
Dfi pit bull: It's my pleasure m8 - Cu placere! :)

I am really waiting to take this chip and put it under Dice or LN2, the FSB is really giving me high hopes :)

Great clocks there on air, but some e8500 cpu's don't seem to like 1.5v+ for 24/7 use and just die after a while.... hope this is not going to happen anymore, could you see what you can get stable at let's say 1.45v?
RPGWiZaRD

all 8500 have shown 4.7+ ghz....that`s a very promising sign...hehehehe.....
Not really all but many does at such high voltage, I'd like to see what voltage it needs for clocks like 4.4 ~ 4.5GHz personally to see if that would be 24/7 possible as I'm gonna pick up a E8400 and I'd really wanna reach 4.2GHz or so but for 24/7 usage I wouldn't use more than 1.5v or so, that's already quite a lot for a 45nm cpu.
At least Wolfdale doesn't look to be running that hot so it probably could whitstand say 1.6~1.65v for a longer period tempwise also on air if ambient temp is fine but the high voltage will still ruin it in the long run. :)

Hey guys,
this is what he did in Orthos until now:
3800@1,35v
4000@1,40v
4200@1,45v
He si trying Orthos at 4420Mhz with 1.53v, but Orthos and DualPrime close right after he starts them. It doesn't give an error, it doesn't shut down the PC, they just turn off. I suppose that the system is not stable, but the behaviour is weird...

Nice CPU there ! :)
Today i played with a watercooled E8400 . We only tried orthos for stability . With 1.5V real(1.55bios) , orthos stable at 4350Mhz. With 1.3V real (1.35bios) 4000Mhz orthos . Also , 4.5Ghz & 1.55V we run superpi .

I hope that not only that batch is just an exception so that clocks like 4.2~4.5GHz stable for 24/7 would become plausible with E8500 and E8400 also on aircooling for majority of the samples.

It is not my fan (the results with the E8500 are done by my friend Asus-Commando) but from what I know it is a Noctua NF-S12-1200 at 1200rpm. BUT keep in mind that the window was open, there were -xx degrees outside and ~10-15 degrees in the house :)

Untill now I only had about 3 hours to play with it, and this is what I've got :D
1. Max clocks until now - 4775Mhz (http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=305620) @ 1.60v, 24 oC room temp
2. SuperPi - 4740Mhz - 9.766s
3. Orthos
- 4000Mhz @ 1.28v
- 4150Mhz @ 1.33v
I've seen Orthos @ 4400 with ~1.47v, but the temps were really high and I didn't have the heart to let it longer to make a screenshot, without better cooling.
4. FSB
I have to test it on a capable board, untill now I have the feeling that my Maximus is holding me back at ~550. Does anyone has this FPO? What was the FSB you guys ot with this FPO?
A few words
-Orthos reads the clocks wrong
-Core Temp 0.96 gives false readings (it stops at 70 oC), Core Temp 0.96.1 gives somehow more accurate readings, but very high numbers.....
Anyway....I love this little sucker and I can't wait to feed it some sub-zero cooling :yepp:
