Ok, I've been thinking about something like this for a while now....:

I understand the 4-pin molex for power, but where does the 9-pin serial cord connect to....?

And what does the tach reflect---CPU usage?

I would imagine the 9 pin serial cable connects to an RS232 port.

There's probably some software you install that interfaces with motherboard monitor or similar and you choose what you want the Tacho to display.

If it's really poor, it might just have some software that constantly makes the Tacho 'rev' and not provide any meaningful readout.

Either way, it's a bit pointless if it just displays CPU Ghz, since that isn't changing unless you are using speedstep etc. but who uses that when overclocking anyway?

My 0.04c (since £0.02 ~ $0.04) ;)

Thanx for the input. I wasn't necessarily thinking of buying/using that product, but after seeing people incorporate the volt meters--temp and tach becomes a natural thought...for me anyway.

But if the tach provides some kind of actual information--I would be interested in that or a DIY version.....

Just for the novelty of it.....

Ok, it reflects CPU usage and there is software. Xoxide.com has a bit better description:

Using a custom software application (designed for use in Windows NT/2000/XP), the tachometer kit will accurately graph your CPU utilization on the car tachometer, redlining at nearly 8000rpm under full load

If it wasn't 3" deep I'd buy it and check it out, but I don't think it will fit in my current build......

CPU usage makes the most sense and would actually be quite fun on a Tacho I suppose.

Here's a mini review from:

Techwarelabs.com (http://www.techwarelabs.com/reviews/cases/pc_tach/)

No doubt it would get old quick, but it just seems like a pretty cool novelty when combined with a volt meter and temp....and maybe amp......:p:
