This wouldn't be the first time I've heard about a "breakthrough" about to give us insane battery life, but it does sound exciting in any case.

Assuming that there's no half-truths from the inventors it sounds like the biggest obstacle now will simply be refining the technology and actually getting it to a price point where it can be used.

It'd be nice to have 40 hour batteries, but if they cost $40,000 each it doesn't really matter.

I followed this myself and it looks promising. I believe it also stabilizes the Batteries (meaning the exploding battery incident) so larger Lithium cells can be built for automotive use without fears of erm, blowing stuff up.

Only downside is the time to charge I believe where EEStore still has the upper hand with their Capacitor based design which could allow gas station style fillups in under a minute.

Most electric cars don't have lithium ion batteries, but those that do have them already enjoy multiple range.

And I will not belive this before I have it in my laptop ;)

I think that time will be the bigger obstacle, not money.
The time to get patent, to refine the production technology, to get it
going stably in mass production, to get it used, etc.

Something like this that claims to also be very easy and cheap to implement is potentially a revolutionary discovery and I'm sure the parties would like to milk it for all it's worth ($$$ lord only knows how many digits considering all the places a discovery like this could be applied) before commiting to production.

Oh no on that all they would do is drop the number of batteries in the car and it would be the same range as before. But it would be nice to have even longer range so it could be used for nice long trips.

I would love not to have to be charging my effin phone and lappy all the time. this looks promising.. let's hope it's the real deal and that they don't victimize the consumer by making the price ridiculously higher than it needs to be..
