I have an old extra SB Live 24bit card and I am currently using the onboard Realtek ALC880 HD Audio in my motherboard. Would the sound quality for music and gaming be better with the sound card?

Thanks

I'm not sure, but I don't think you would notice. You could always try and post your results here!

You will have better sound with the card, the circuitry and components are far better than onboard.

U'd better go with the Live.

I would suggest the card would most likely sound better then the onboard. Try both and decide form there. Good luck.

It will sound better. Onboard may have more features, but SQ wise go dedicated, even a normal Live! has better SQ than many onboard solutions.

to add to this post....which one is better?

I am using Asus P5B Deluxe onboard sound currently, ADI AD1988B 8-channel High Definition Audio CODEC

but I have a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 5.1 SB0090 w/1394, that I ripped out of my old system.

I also just purchased a pair of Klipsch Promedia 2.1 THX speakers, which are on the way....lemme know what you guys think..
