Scythe Celebrates its Fifth Anniversary, Intros All Copper Ninja CPU Cooler
Five years ago in Akihabara Electric Town located in Tokyo Japan Scythe began its operation and business as a distributor and manufacturer of PC parts & gaming devices for “DIY PC Experts!”. Year 2008 marks the 5th anniversary of Scythe, and the firm is launching an all copper version to mark the occasion. This copper version comes with luxurious all copper heatsink fins as well as a slower speed fan (800rpm) to fully benefit from the higher performance and heat transfer ratio of the copper while keeping the noise to minimum. The SCNJ-CU1000 cooler weights 1015g (+115g Fan) and for that reason Scythe has decided to change the clip mounting mechanism with new one that features backplate and better contact pressure. This model will come in limited quantity and price around 70.00 (USD) / 59.90 (EURO).

That is.. an obscene amount of copper. That's something I would put in a glass case and then on a pedestal in the entry-way of my house to show it off. Piece of art, not necessarily function :yepp:

Now give us the regular Ninja with the new mounting system  :D
Looks nice, but I thought I'd seen the worst with my old Hyper6

At f****** last! They should update the regular Ninja mounting gear as well.

shouldn't the base be copper? seems ass backwards.

If it beats a TRUE... GREAT!!
Otherwise not worth the time/money.
Noting the heatpipes are spread further apart vs. the regular ninja. They should have gone with that design from the start.

is that actually aluminium though, or nickel plated copper ala thermalright?

People, the base is nickeled copper
the only alum part of the heatsink is the heatsink on top of the base and contact of the heatpipes

looks like it could be a good cooler actually with a high rpm fan

but it still has an ALU base
Nickel-plated copper.
I don't understand the reason behind this product.
Copper is much more expensive and heavy -> neither is good for a heatsink.
While copper has better heat transfer, alu has better heat dissipation - so
the copper heatpipe + alu fins, factoring in the lower cost and weight, is the
better combination. Where it could (and ususally does) have its shortcoming
is the contact between the two materials, as alu fins are usually just pressed
on.

Celebratory super-aesthetic product :) Doesn't work too badly either ;)
Like the Lian Li PC-60C Anniversary case :)

Aluminium doesn't have better dissapation than copper, thats a bit of a common misconception.
Copper would increase performance slighly, but IMO the weight and cost factors more than outweigh the marginal benefit.

Its height makes it a reasonable option for an HTPC

Yeah, especially in a case that makes it stand upright. 1130g is a little on the heavy side.

Now at 10 years they should do an all SILVER heat sink, that would be even better :p.

Maybe we have to wait for their 25th anniversary for that. :D :p:

What's next, pure gold heatsink for their 100th aniversary? :D

Guys for the longest time I have been looking for the best material to make a heat sink.I was watching nasa tv one day and they were talking about the heat shields from the nasa space shuttles. They had a guy hold a block around this size of a brick and said it weighed like half a lb,He then took a blow torch to it for 20 seconds and got it cherry red hot.after 10 seconds he held it with his bare hand.
can you imagine the heat transfer performance we would get if we had that matirial.
does anyone know what that stuff is called? It would make the best heat sink in the world.

silver is actually THE BEST heat disapating material FYI. And don't go telling me you're going to build a heatsink out of ice... if ambients were cold enough for that to work you wouldn't need a heatsink.

btw, this is a limited quantity anniversary product. They could've made it out of unobtanium if they felt like it.
;)silver is actually THE BEST heat disapating material (...)Oh no it isn't.
...Carbon nanotubes...

nah.. the 100th will bring ln2 in a 24/7 useable form.. you know, for our 512 Core 100Ghz Cpu's which will be 45 times faster clock per clock, come with a tdp of 666W and barely run the then newest ms operating system:p:
anyway, back to reality, i think the all Copper ninja is great for those looking for something nice to put into a living room pc with a window, but other than that? well, i prefer the true for its performance.

Why all of the copper with no copper base:shrug:

interesting...all copper EXCEPT the base???

Why not a copper base with aluminium fins instead? I think that would both work better and be cheaper.
But yeah, I know, this is a marketing gimmick ...

the base is copper, it is just nickel plated. wouldn't something that heavy warp a mobo? its almost 3 pounds
