It'll at least be more stable than Vista. It's pretty obvious why Microsoft refuses to let a server OS out the door with as many bugs as they did Vista: uptime. Corporations can't deal with constant 'quirks' like the power user can.
I'm betting you'll see slightly better benches across the board, though, like you did with 2003 over XP.

I have been using 2k8 Enterprise Edition since the past year or so (beta tester) and the speed and stability of this OS is goddang unbelievable. For that matter, this is much much better than Vista and I have yet to see a single dman BSOD on my server from the day I installed the first alpha/beta version. Even with all the startup services running the boot time is faster than vista. Also, any of the network transfer issues are virtually non-existant with 2k8.
I am running XP on each and every machine/laptop at home except on my HTPC and I see no need to upgrade any of them to Vista. However, after using 2k8 for almost a year now I refuse to run anything other than 2k8 on my server.
I am currently using the 64 bit RC1 version with Hyper-V. Even though I may end up getting this through my Technet subscription, I will attend this event anyway as my company will gladly give me paid time off to attend this event.

Better than Vista, perhaps, better than Win XP/Server 2k3, no.
Yawn, I only see 2008 as Vista -eyecandy +server features... Anything based on Vista can't be a great bench OS. :p:

Win 2003 server isn't efficient as Linux. My 2003 server hangs when my pc isn't running apps. I have active directory installed on my 2003 server, print server.
I am looking forward to 2008 server. I hope it will match Linux stability.

vista is stable
The only stable installation of Vista I've had is on my laptop. The rest have ultimately died, and not due to user error, either. Not really sure why, but it's safe to say 2K8 will be a better bet for people who actually want to do serious work (developers, for instance).

I'm using RC1 now and it's generally snappier than Vista and faster in games and 3dm01, but slower in Super Pi.
