Not impressive considering it has the most ram. Also, I would have loved to see 3850 512 tested instead of the 256 version.

No DX_10.1, no HDMI and almost same performance as HD 3850 256Mb.
Price is 169$ so also no advantage in price and only launch till in 1 month.

Core size is also bigger then HD 3800 that with faster gddr3 memory bring cost of prodution higher.

Wow, those tests aren't to good, the 8800GS is pretty close to the 9600GT and with the 3850.....
There making it hard for me to decide which card I want to buy :mad:

Uhh I find this very impressive. This card is meant to replace the 8600GTS and considering how it's thoroughly stomping it, kudos to Nvidia for actually launching a mid-range product. If the 9600GT is keeping up with the 8800GT then I'm sure the 9800GT will have an additional 30-40% performance increase and be a rather fast card.

I don't think so , 64sp wont stand a chance against 112sp , it shows it muscles against the 8600GTS due to higher busswidth however i would like to see a clock per clock comparison between the 8800GS and 9600GT

Well the 8800GS and 9600GT are equivalent cards, there's another review out here that shows that. 9600GT has higher clocks, lower SP. I was a bit mistaken in saying it's keeping up the the 8800GT but it sure is keeping up with the HD3850 and I imagine if you throw a 512MB HD3850 in there it'll keep up just as well as both cards can't be expected to perform well above 16x12/16x10 resolutions which is where the 512MB of ram come into play. Needs more benching, that's for sure, but I think it's a mid-range winner.

you can get PowerColor HD3850 PCS 512MB GDDR3 for 179$, and you can get it now (not 1 month like 9600GT) with suport for DX_10.1/SM4.1, HDMI/HDMI-Sound and a fancy cooler.

Also HD 3850 can get lower prices by february time. The core is smaller then 9600GT and uses GDDR3 more slower/cheaper, also by that time AIB partners will have their custom PCB´s more cheaper and don´t use ATI reference PCB.

Saphire and other partners allready started to show their custom PCB in CES with expected cheaper prices.
9600GT will have a very hard time to get this segment of market ;)

I don't care if that card is competitive to ATI offerings or not it is good enough that the MSR for that card is the same retail price for the 8600GTS 512MB and it is the same MSRP as the 8600GT when it came out so it is logical that this card will be pushed down a little bit in price to fell below 150$ ,,, but that is only me :D

yes but look at the lower resolutions. the 256mb on the 3850 has no negative effect on it and it still gets beat out by the 9600gt. and also look at the current price of 8600gt's it will not be long until the 9600gt falls into the $120-100 range. the thing that will set one better than the other is overclocking. which can go farther? also the 9600gt may use less power even though it is 65nm it has a greatly reduced amount of shadders.

if the 9600gt can oc well it will beat the 3850 as features like HDMI sound, DX10.1 and SM4.1 are all but useless at the moment.

AMD has pretty much maxed out the drivers for HD 3850. were as the 9600gt is not even out yet. so they will gain much more in new drivers than AMD. also nvidia has been making chips on 65nm longer than AMD on 55nm and you don't know how big the G-94 core is. i am betting it will be smaller than the RV670 as it has only 64 shadders. the HD 3850 is not made to be a $120 card it is made to be a $180 card were as the 9600gt is just the latest in a family of $120 cards.

Considering that this is the 9600 series the results are great. It keeps up with the 8800GS. I'm sure with new drivers it will leave teh other cards in it's dust (just like the first 8800GTS 512 review showed). The new 9800 series should be pretty damn quick. Still though it's good that ATI have an attractive card at the low-mid range also. Great for users out there.

ahh while i may be wrong the die size does not mean power consumption. in which case i could care less how big the core is if it has less power consumption.

were can you get HD 3850 512mb versions for $169? i have to see any under $190 but most are around $200 and for that price i would rather pay the extra $40 for a 8800gt 512mb. granted the 9600gt may start at the same price as a new PCB version of the 3850 (IF they drop the prices) but the X600gt series has always been a $100-120 price range card. that is how nvidia have it in there marketing plan so they will end up cheaper. and by the time new drivers come out it will be even faster. so it will be cheaper and faster. what more could you need?

Considering that this is the 9600 series the results are great. It keeps up with the 8800GS. I'm sure with new drivers it will leave teh other cards in it's dust

The 9600 has the core clocked pretty high compared to other nv cards, so
I'm not so sure that it will leave the other cards in the dust if you factor in
overclocking. Also, it's just 64sp. Half of the G92-GTS...
