I'm looking at the value for building a Q6600 (or more) to crunch for the XS WCG team. I find that there's about a $20 difference between an OEM chip and retail, so what's the best cooling for this thing in the price/performance arena ?
I'm not looking to spend the $40+ for the coolers that tend to be popular for major overclocking, what's good for less ?
$30 feels right to me. Suggestions ?

In all honesty I have to tell you to spend the money for the TRUE..
The $20.00 you save you will hate yourself for every day.
They just work so much better that the money is well spent.
I'm a big beleiver in quality boards,HS, and PSU's
Cases are boxes and the cheaper the better.
Same with vid for this use..a $3.00 old PCI vid card will work fine.
I used a 1997 4mb STB/Virge in a cruncher for a long time..:D

just get an arctic cooling freezer. cheep at 27.99
I don't think that can handle a q6600 though. Where is the blasted arctic cooling freezer extreme anyways? That thing was do months ago. For $30 (from newegg) I believe you can buy coolermaster's geminii cooler which is actually pretty decent, does a good job of cooling your mofsets too which is always a plus

From that, Tuniq is probably his best bet.

I like my Freezer 7 Pro
My E6400@3.2Ghz Idles @ 41 Deg C @ 80% fan speed(35 Deg C at 2:00 am when central heating is off.)
Orthos Prime for 30 minutes = 56 Deg C @ 80% fan speed
100% fan speed is LOUD 80% is nice and quiet.
CPU is @ 1.375 V in BIOS
I cannot say how it would perform with a Quad, even so I do hope you find this info helpful.

The best cooler from a price/performance standpoint has to be the tuniq tower. It comes with a decent fan and controller, and at about half speed is fairly quiet. The TRUE is $20 more plus the cost of a fan, and needs to be lapped to perform best. I have three quads running 100% load 24/7. Two of them with lapped TRUE's and one with the tuniq. My temps are only a few degrees cooler with the TRUE's. Just my :2cents:

The Xigmatec 1283 is $37 on newegg right now, and according to that chart, is a great value for that price along with some MX-2 imo.
