EDIT: Pic's added on page 2

Hi.

Some time ago, i bought 200+ intel stock coolers for approx. the price of a case of beer @ any country in the world (except maybe sweden and iceland).

So, they have been sitting in my basement all this time. Now and then, i have been thinking about what i should do with them.

As time went by, i realized, that maybe i should have kept the money, and bought myself a case of beer instead.

Now here i am, asking all of you splendid modders out there:

"What in the name of a holy cows a**hole am i gonna do with 200+ intel stock coolers"???

ANY ideas are welcome, lame as can be

Cheers, Mads321

one question. Why the hell did you buy 200 stock intel coolers:rofl: :ROTF: :ROTF: :ROTF: :ROTF:

I dunno, sell them on ebay for like $3 plus shipping a piece? There's always going to be someone that broke their mounting mechanism or something of the sort that won't want to pay a lot of money for a new hsf

Trade it them in bundles of 10 to other geeks for amd heatpipe coolers? Those are actually pretty decent at cooling, then you could mount them on say a nb or gfx card, its been done plenty of times

Make them into sex toys?

Throw them at your wife/gf whenever you get mad at her (probably a bad idea though)?

Build a case out of them like thermalright's heatpipe case?

Throw them at a local beer shop's manager until they give you 2 cases of beer?

Hit yourself in the head with them until you realize why you bought 200 crappy coolers?

sell them to buy "goods" off the random gay hobo on a shady corner whose prices are

$1 to look at it
$2 to touch it
$3 to watch me touch it
$5 to touch it while I touch my toes
$6 to touch it while I touch your toes
$10 for a bj
$12 for an hj
$15 for a zj

I recommend the zj:ROTF:

If they are Core 2 heatsinks with the copper core then knock out the copper core and try to sell the copper and aluminum for scrap. I imagine you've got a couple dozen pounds of copper and aluminum, worth something.

Mads321
01-12-2008, 06:19 PM
Well i must say.... Some pretty far out ideas so far. Might acually end up doing one of thoose things

I'd say somewhere between 5-10% of them are copper-core. Rest is pure aluminium.

I'd love to ship some of em to peeps, but i really don't think it would be worth the cost for any part.

The best idea i had myself, was to drill out the cores on a bunch of em, and then maybe superglue them together or something. Would make a pretty unique resevoir/watercooling tank.
That idea (along with basicly all other ideas i've had about them), would include me going out buying a :banana::banana::banana:load of hardware (ie. drills, weldingdevices etc.).

Should any danish people with access to a machineshop or something stuble upon this tread, well you should PM me, if you would have any interest in making something with the coolers.

btw, i bought the coolers 2+ years ago, when they actually had some value :D

Shortened form of a "Zzzz Job" (pronounced "Zee Job".)
Oral sex performed on a man while he's asleep.

Ideally: while he's experiencing morning wood and resulting in his being roused from sleep.

See also: morning head.

Note: The "ZJ" version was made famous by the (excellent) show beerfest

Q: What are you so :banana::banana::banana:ing happy about?

I can get $0.50/pound for aluminium here. Copper pays almost $2. recycle them and let someone put them to a proper use...i.e. anything not related to cooling, and help the environment a bit at the same time! ;)

Sorry to rain on your parade bro, but it takes huge amounts of energy to remelt these. Then they will probably just go into electrical lines, or soda cans (thrown out), or something else heavily dealing with energy. Thats the problem with recycling it takes much more energy then simple reuse.

cadaveca
01-13-2008, 02:53 AM
I know...but it's better than simply sitting in a pile IMHO.

Energy cannot be created or destroyed, according to Conservation Laws, so it's use to do anything plays no role in my thinking...If I was concerned about energy use affecting the environment, I wouldn't have a 30-inch monitor...

Besides..keeping conservation of energy in mind, usage of excess energy in the environment for recycling seems fine to me...this issue at hand really, is where that energy is sourced from, and the environmental impact it may have...hydro-electric has almost no emmisions, and isn't going to have any larger impact on the environment than the dam that's already there providing the power...

Heat them all up and remove the center cooper part, flog that as copper is worth money.

Then get a copper tube that fit the ID of the aluminum part, slide all the parts on to make one big passive tube, bit of brazing and then you have a passive rad!

Dude's that's ebaum's worthy.

On a side note, you could easily either dremel out the middles for them, or if it's a hollowcore cooler, just heat up the other end in a furnace (wife might protest) and simply pop out the copper part.

Stack 4-5 of em together and its a $100 reservoir.

How is selling your old hardware to the highest bidder like becoming a con artist. I dont see how selling your old hardware for what its worth as being a con job. You old hardware is worth what the market will bear. If the ebay market bears $15 or even $30 each then that is what they are worth. Sorry to rain on your parade dude, but its called the conservation of energy AND matter for a reason. Matter IS energy, when matter/anti-matter is destroyed it turns into pure energy [i.e.heat and light] and it is possible to turn energy into matter/anti-matter. Hence why nuclear reactions are so powerful and why scientists around the world are trying to make anti-matter efficiently.

EDIT: Forgot to put a suggestion. I think turning them into passive reservoirs and selling them is a good idea. You could sell the mounting mechanism, fans, etc as spare parts. Nice idea with the water blocks too.

From a small amount of matter, you can get a huge amount of energy.
But, it takes a huge amount of energy to produce a small amount of matter.

Sell them to people on eBay for $1 each, shipping should be around $6 or so. In the end, you get around $200 back... and I bet you can finally buy that keg of beer that you have always wanted.

Wow... see? You just made $10 easily... if you had considered selling! :D Now wait until 20 people ask you the same thing, and you'll have a nice $200 in your pocket. A keg of beer is like... what? $80? :D

A guy on a local forum made a phase-change tutorial on how to turn an Intel heatsink into an evapurator.

Well, since no one else said I will add my suggestion.

Drill a hole dead center through every one of them. Now mount them side by side in a huge grid on your wall. When people come over that have no idea what they are and they ask, look around nervously while saying "oh nothing, nothing" then cackle as you walk away.

So are these still collecting dust lol
Besides doing that i guess they are also appreciating in value....
Who knows maybe in a few years you can start using them as currency.

Making a hug hole on the middle and putting them togheter in a huge cylinder heatsink, you can use it as a cooler or heater when water comes thru it. and a very good one.

weld 8 or 12 together engine style, fab some heatpipes down to a base, similar to the 2 big typhoon mods.

If you have 250 and you sell them for 10 dollars each on ebay thats 2500 dollars right there. You could buy a VERY nice pc with that money. :D

Make a table out of them.

Take the fan's out of a load and make 4 legs, then weld a load together for the surface and put some glass over the top of the surface.

Job's a good un

I had around the same number and gradually sold them in lots of more than 30 over a year. Made good cash too.
