Is it worth taking that thing apart to reapply some AS5 on the core / some TR Chill Factor on the memory? Reason why I ask is that I don't feel like buying another HSF and I'm wondering if the paste on there is any good - want to push this card to get my money out of it.

its worth a try, i always remount mine when i get them, my GT had really bad contact when i bought it, so its worth just checking.

It's not top of the line, but i doubt reapplying will decrease your temps. The cooler is not very good, to begin with.

my 3870 i had no past over the core, it was on the edges of the die (not on top) and the center had nothing and its just 4 screws to get it off so i would do it, u dont even pull the ram sinks off since they re a different sink
my 3870 has some stock thermal paste that looked like as5 but after changing it to mx-2 there was a temp difference on loads.

Same here... mx-2 knocked 5c off the 3870 load temps

I might get my hands on a VF900, and if I do I will report my deltas on here for you. :]

Mine looked like it had Shin Etsu on it. Thickish and light grey. Which probably means that I made it worse with AS5. LOL.
