I'm not in the country right now, but my friend has asked me to buy some stuff for his SOLO.

1. Does the Thermalright Ultra 120 Xtreme fit on the DFI X38/P35 boards with a HR-05 on the NB? Or do I have to get the SLi version?
2. I know some people have fitted 120mm fans in the intake of the SOLO/P150 (instead of the 92mm fans). Is it recommended? Anything need modding/cutting?
3. 120mm fan intake in the 5.25" drivebays (SOLO), necessary, or not helpful at all?
4. How big of a difference (in terms of noise & airflow) is it if I don't remove the fan grill on the back?
5. Can I monitor and change fan speeds in the DFI BIOS, or do I have to do it manually every time I turn on my computer thru Speedfan?

the true fits the dfi x38 LT but u cant use a 2 fan config and have to have it blow vertically, and the dfi stock lt sink has the same tower as the thermalrite one so assume that its the same size but with a wider base on the stock

I was thinking more along the lines of this: if I had the TRUE blow horizontally (ie towards the rear exhaust), would the HR-05 fit in between the videocard and the TRUE? Are you positively sure that I can't have it blow horizontally?

teh true will clear the stock hs horizontally but the tower cooler on the hr05 is something that might interfere

NVM, I'll give the HR-05 SLI a shot.

who ever heard of an extreme edition board that permanently enables C1E, and has issues overclocking 800mhz FSB processors?

IIRC, noone. :yepp:

im dumpin this piece of trash tomorrow, ordering a foxconn mars, 4 gigs of DDR2, and an extra hard drive, along with coolabs liquid pro.

I think the HR-05 SLi will fit with the TRUE in a horizontal pos.

See here:

The DS3R has an almost identical layout, see this:

vs. the DFI

This guy said it worked (it's pretty damn close):

nice find i might get that 05 for my x38 the stock one is good though, but the need of a fan on the NB is a concern

and not a good amp but my sba2 plat pro gets them loud enough for me at 80%, i think that the external box is louder than the back of the card also so it might have a crappy amp in it but i love them
