Intel Core 2 Duo E6850.

hello i was wondering whats better Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 or a Intel Q6600 Quad Core Proccessor:)

Depends.

The Q6600 is faster in applications coded to use all 4 cores, but for apps that aren't(eg. most games) the E6850 is faster due to the higher clock speed.

The Q6600 certainly has more potential, but also runs hotter, uses more power, etc.

Which one is the better buy for most people is debatable, but I would prefer a Q6600.

99% of G0 stepping Q6600 chips with also overclock to 3GHz, same as the E6850, with stock volts without breaking a sweat.

I'd say go for the Quad.

Not really, not as suicidal as I would have liked. :cool:
Voltage was 1.57V in CPU-Z, was set to 1.7V in the BIOS, cant get any higher than 1.57 with the stupid Asus BIOS's of late.

I'd say go for the e8400 or e8500 which is already on sale in Australia.

I would go Q6600 or an E8400, just don't consider wasting money on the E6850... the E8400 is cheaper, same multi and has 6Mb cache, should run cooler and with less voltage than the E6850...

I too was sceptical and bought an E6850 to replace my old E6600, E6850 ran at 3.8ghz and was fab, then I built a quad rig for a friend, just upped that to 3ghz and games and apps felt smoother then the high OC'ed E6850... once you go quad you will never look back... just my 5 cents...

the dual core will be easier to OC maybe even 3.8-4ghz, quad estimate around 3.4-3.6 for daily use...

Agreed. I used to have an E6600 clocked at 3,6Ghz and when I got my Q6600 running at 3,2GHz then 3,6GHz, I was under the impression that a lot of thing was running faster and smoother. I may be biased since I was really happy to get a Quad and my subconscious was playing with me but then again, that was my impression.

mate mind if i ask how did you overclock your cpu to 3.6 in overclocking what did u do cause i dont want to ruin my comp like i did to my last lol
