CPU intel P4 3.6
memory 2x512 MB
i work in 3DsMax....
pcN1 is 4 times faster than pcN2 (in RENDERING)

I have a p5wd2e prem with a 940 and also think its alot faster than my other rigs at some things, more snappy, faster usb and faster boot. Nice working mb,very solid.

U say that 940 is more faster than E6600? in some 'works'?
:(
but i can's imagine why is Code Core so slow in opening Files.
(Just moment 3DsmaX files)

hard disks? ram speed? have you defragmented? etc etc... they are all valid questions...

Check your CPU usage while opening the files. If you are not maxing out any cores while doing so then it is not CPU bottlenecked and it's probably your hard drive.
Another thing is it certainly isn't your memory. Unless you have some magical hard drive that can read in the gigabytes per second speed range and somehow manged to max out your ddr2 and not your ddr1 bandwidth...

Now I have had time to think, it was probly the raid setup with Ich vs nvidia that made things run faster for me.

there isnt any raid different on the ich8 vs the nvidia
infact the mcp on the nvidia 650 series, which is the same as the 680i was a damn fast little raid controller.
i too have a P4 Prescott 3ghz 775 cpu and i noticed the exact same thing.
when doing par checking of large files, and opening those files the 775 prescott was faster than my 6600 AND Q6600
why,,,, who knows
here's the big killer - the 3ghz Prescott is a SINGLE CORE!! w/ Hyper Threading.
the fact is boys that the Q6600's will only see their true potential, and only a portion of it, under gaming and a FEW other apps.
Windows XP and Vista for that matter, are not truly quad optimized, like it or not, its true.
if you sit and watch task manager and cpu usage you will see that 1 core generally takes all the weight of the,,, tasks,, the other 3 cores just sit there and do nothing, or very little to nothing most of the time.
Giorgazed -
one problem is that the 965 board you have is not really a very quad friendly board so you may be seeing some performance descreases, although its probably unlikely..
if you are running raid on one system and not the other,, thats another thing
overclocking 1 and not the other ??
check around the website of those programs you have and see if they have any tweaks or patches for dual/quad core.
call their support line and ask them if they know of any issues with quads that make it run slower ? (silly question i know but ask)
What do you mean? prefetch

Okayyyyy, I'll try to ask more "concretly" ( )
Have you checked your prefetch settings? (Click "run" and type "prefetch")
You may find that your prefetch folder on your second folder contains a prefetch instructions for the files in question.
I don't mean BIOS SETTINGS!!!!
