so i was bored on monday and decided to lap my ultima 90 to see if i could decrease the temp difference between cores

started off with 400 grit but wish i started with lower, my base was so messed up. i varried the pattern that i went in but for the most part i did a circle. heres the result over a 3hr period

i eventually got to 800 grit and my battery died (no pic) and i decided to mount it to see if there was a temp drop. there wasnt :( a bit later i got bored again and went to 1000 grit and mounted but still no change.

so my orthos load temps stayed 33/40C
i guess i would need to lap the cpu but i'm not sure i'm ready to do that cause my luck i would and it would die shortly after and i'd be f'ed cause i'm a poor college student and cant afford a new proc

Wow that wasn't flat at all was it. Not sure if you were aware but anything over 800 grit is just for looks. Go down to 200-220 grit..... then 400.... then 800.

Lapping the CPU is quite safe as long as you take precautions. I've lapped both my E6420 and Q6600 with no problems. Use the protective backing that comes with the CPU and very light sprays of water on the sandpaper. It will be fine.
