I'm running:
MSI K9A2 Platinum
X2 6000+ (CCB8F 0714UPMW)
2 x HD 3870's crossfire
4 x 1GB Apacer DDR2-800
XP x64 SP2

Up until recently, AMD overdrive has been working fine for me.

So I tried a suicide run, to see how high I could get.
I set it to 3510MHZ, 1.688V, and got a CPU-Z screenshot and verified:

I closed and reopened AMD overdrive, and the system froze.

So I restart the system, and then try to restart AMD overdrive again.
Black screen - I had set it to not load at startup, and not to automatically load any settings.

So I restart again, uninstall AMD overdrive, and delete the remaining files from it.
after a fresh reinstall of AMD overdrive, I open it, and I still get a black screen.

Does anybody know what's up with that?

BTW, I was using version 2.0.14 beta (which was working fine before)

you may need to remove whatever it has placed in your registry for it to run properly again. Make sure there isn't any files left from the original install...

Do a Windows restore. I had a similar problem with my Abit software when I tried to update it. Go back a couple days before the event. Once you have done that, check to see if the Overdrive tool works. If it doesn't, try to uninstall it and reinstall.

My software also didn't function right after the restore point, but I was able to correctly uninstall it at that time and reinstall it. :)

I disabled system restore. It was one of the first things I did when I installed windows. (it takes resources, and I don't mind reinstalling Windows every now and again)

Where would I look for the registry settings to delete?
I deleted a folder in HKCU\Software, which was for the overdrive program.

Use the search feature of regedit to scour the registry for any entries left.

start/run regedit and hit F3. Search for "overdrive" and delete all the entries after you have uninstalled it. Reboot and reinstall. See if it fixes it. Also, make sure that when you begin your search you are at the top of the registry.

it's working now. I deleted references to AMD overdrive (there were also settings for LCD overdrive, part of the ATI drivers, which I left alone), and reinstalled 2.0.14 beta.
