I have an Asus AM2 M3A and x2 4000+ and I seem to have hit a wall with overclocking
I can get to 240x10.5 2520Mhz at sock volts and it won't go any higher even with more volts
It's not the CPU FSB as I lowered the Multi to 9 and it loads into windows at 260x9 with no problems
Settings are
HT 1200
FSB 240
Multiplyer 10.5
Volts 1.3
Ram Freq 420Mhz
CPU-NB Auto
Mem Clock Auto
Can anyone help

try 278*9, how high have you tried raiseing the vcore? with my 4200 on my m2n i can boot at x volts but am not stable tile i raise it another 3 values. what ram are you using, could be the ram holding you back
What bios are you running? 0406? Do you have "2T" enabled?
I would start by backing the mem down. You're not using AOD are you?

Just tried 278 x 9 and got a loud single beep
I have tried upto 1.5v with no luck
Ram is generic 1066 PQI single 1gb stick, I will try setting to lower speed

I will try updating the bios and 2T is currently set to Auto as are all the other ram settings

Thanks guys, I set the following
- Memory clock mode to Manual
- 2T enabled
- Mem clock value to 533Mhz
and I can boot into windows xp at 3000Mhz (300x10) @ 1.3v
But it's not stable on anything above 2700Mhz (270x10) @ 1.3v
I'm on stock air cooling so won't push the volts atm :)

Lower the HT multi down to 3. I know these new boards are supposed to take massive HT but its still something nice to rule out.

What are your load temps?
I would try a little more CPU volts.
fwiw, I have the 5000+ BE in right now, stock volts on everything, DDR2-667, 2T, 200FSB, 15x CPU multi.
50c at Orthos load for hours...solid as a rock....unlocked multi makes it easy.... :D

Hmm i need >1,45V for 305x10,5 with my BE-2400 on the M3A temps go fast above 70° with the CNPS7000B but with watercooling it's stable with temps ~60°, so u might need better cooling and more volts.

The 4000+ I just picked up from newegg is about the same. Stock volts gets me to 2700. 3ghz requires a fat ramp up to 1.5vcore though (on the recently deceased MSI).
I will be overclocking the 4000 later today on an M3A though. Ill let you know how it does.

How do I lower HT multi
What are your load temps?
Load temps are around
core 0 - 48c
core 1 - 43c
How do I lower HT multi
Under "Jumper free...", "AI config" set to manual, there is an option for CPU-HT link speed....1000=x5, 800=x4, 600=x3, etc.

Lil bug type thing. My windows install started to act like it was fubared. Would start hang during windows load but worked fine in safe mode. After a while I got pissed at it and started getting ready to reinstall. Hung on a reboot though so I flipped the power in the back. Took a lil longer than normal to post then went into windows and worked fine......
If you guys think your windows install is fubared, try unplugging the computer for a min before you restort to reinstalling xp.
Also, the latest bios seems to overclock much better. I didnt see you say which you have, but if you are using the old one, upgrade.

HT speed is FSB*CPU-HT multi, stock it is 200*5, since OP has fsb at 240 its 240*5=1200 which is definatly the problem with the instability there. so drop the cpu-ht multi to 4 or 800 as they have it listed. should have noticed that earlier, nice catch noee

Thanks I set it to 200 and 3Ghz is still unstable :(

I'm still on bios 0301, will try bios 0406 later

Normally if there are issues booting into Windows it means something's not stable. Clearing the CMOS and starting the tweaking again is the preferred route as opposed to reinstalling everything!
1.5V is pretty high to get to 3Ghz. I have left my CPU running OCCT's CPU stress test whilst at work today at 3Ghz and 1.4V. Hopefully, it will still be running in 9-10 hours time!

I couldnt even get my board to hit 300HT at all before bios 0406.

0406 seems a better bios
I got 2940Mhz (280x10.5) 1.3v stable for 18mins of prime
atm I'm staying on stock cooling and 2.7Ghz (270x10) 1.3v :)
