I just installed my new Thermalright 120 Extreme HS on my C2D....and attached to it a Scythe Ultra Kaze 120mm 3000rpm fan....its loud as hell....its supposed to be silent...

so I'd like to know two things....one....do I need a 3000rpm fan on this HS or will a lower rpm fan maintain the same temps? and second, what fan is somewhat silent? that I could attach to this HS....

I was running a Arctic Freezer Pro 7 HS before, and it's stock fan was almost silent running at well over 2500rpm...

thanks guys...sounds like a plane is taking off in my room.

you can tell just by the RPM how loud its gona be, generally your looking for somthing under 1500rpm, i just bought myself a scythe sflex E and its fantastic.

yeah I just educated myself on what dBA means....:P my bad...1500rpm seems a bit low though?...right now I'm running my stock Lian-Li 120 fan, and it seems to be doing the job...and....my temps are the same as with the 3000rpm fan....hmmm

I'm using an Enermax Warp 120. Keeps temps in check and fan speed is adjustable.

If you want silence and decent performance on that HSF I think your best bet is the Noctua NF-P12
