View Full Version : Windows shuffles cores?

Just noticed something odd lately, and wondered if anyone else had seen this. (Tried with both .94 and .96 coretemp.)

Windows seems to shuffle which core is which, at each boot/reboot. I was under the assumption that they were all fixed in their locations? Guess not?

Note the temps. There are always 2 sets of 2, but they change spots.

I think its just diff cores getting loaded at diff times.

I thought that too at first. Just to make sure that wasn't the case, all shots were taken at 0% with the task manager showing a flat line for the cpu on all cores.

Those are the baseline temps for each core, with room temp stable between tests, fan speeds equal, and just a simple reboot. Windows definitely re-assigns core numbers on boot, on my machine anyway.

I had a dual core (E6600) before and swapped to the Q6600. I wonder if that has anything to do with the way windows handles things, since it wasn't a full install on a quad core.
