Hi Guys im looking to add a couple of computers to my network shortly (new gaming PC and a HTPC) and was hoping to up to a Gigabit LAN
all PCs have Gigabit Ethernet Card (except wireless OFC)
My question is do i need to upgrade just my switch or will i have to pull my router aswell
any other ideas also towards improving the layout?
and i need to go via a switch as there is a fairly large distance from Router to switch and router needs to be downstairs for wireless
Thanks

Should just be a drop-in replacement of the 10/100 switch.
edit: Note that in replacing only the switch, your PCs will communicate over gigabit, but all traffic going out of the switch will be at 100mbit max. This shouldn't be an issue unless your internet connection is greater than 100mbit.

Just that machine.
PS. Congrats on being the first person I've seen in years here to ask a network question and have such a nice looking diagram ready.

I've used this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833122128) switch for about 6 months and its been perfect. Good price, great performance and its actually smaller than what is pictured on Newegg. Thanks for the update, Yakyb.

make sure that everybody is conected with cat5e or cat6.
if the adsl modem has more then one ethernet port then i would connect
the switch to that port instead of going through the router. saves you a
hop and latency.

It costs for extra IPs a lot of time, too. :(
