Finally got the guts to lap my e4300, and ordered myself a kit of easypckits...

Was a tedious 2 and 1/2 hours but it was worth it. Used 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1200, 1500, 2000 grit sand paper and printer paper to finish it off. After about 15 minutes on 400 grit to get the ihs flat, was wicked concave, spent about 10-8 minutes on all the others. Noticed the scratches on the outer edges of the ihs where a lot deeper when i was finishing off with 2000 grit and there was a sort of ring because i didnt get the edges to well so i went back to 1500 to get a better finish on the edges (youll notices a light ring in the pic even though the ihs is flat).

When all is said and done, it helped my temps quite a bit...

Nice one - good to see someone taking their time over lapping. When I lapped my CPU I also changed my cooler and my thermal compound, so I can't really draw comparisons like yours. However, the improvement over my stock cooling is astounding...my load temps are a good 25°C cooler with my improved cooling :D

Very nice job! I lapped my old E4300 as well as my current E6420. I love shiny copper!

Downloaded and ran TAT today, both cores @ 100% workload, temps maxed at 60/61 after 20 minutes, the last time i ran TAT with the same cpu settings the temps hit 66/69 with the cpu @ 3.1ghz 1.35v (Arctic Freezer Pro). Still not exactly the nicest temps, but im hoping when i get my Thermalright SI-128 and my yate ill be sitting with much nicer load temps.

On the bright side, you got about as much an improvement as could have been expected from lapping.

Well done.
