Just rumors of a new CPU cooler, no idea if its better or worse than Ultra 120 Extreme

as the new motherboards coming out and all sometime this year

You know, I just bought the HR5 and HR9 chipset and mosfet coolers.

Should have saved my money.

TR makes great heat transfer hardware that CAN work good, and always looks good, but they can't make a decent retention mechanism to save their lives.

The chipset cooler isn't made for Intel IHS style North Bridges, and fits like total crap on a Maximus Formula, and the washers they give you are soft rubber, so when you DO get the unit tight enough, the washers pull through the screw heads. It also flexes the board when just tight enough not to wiggle easily on the chipset. It needs a backplate, which would solve both issues. Keep in mind that the IHS on a X38 Northbridge is the same size as a Socket 775.

The mosfet coolers mount easy enough, but they don't mount SECURE, light finger pressure on the coolers pushing towards the outside of the motherboard will lift them right off the mosfets.

And don't even get me started on the Ultra Extreme's mounting problems.

As far as any CPU cooling goes, I dont think you can beat this with anything

The TRUE 120 eats the IFX-14 anytime

The TRUE 120 eats the IFX-14 anytimeThey're pretty much even...IFX is only like 2-3C back when both have a modded mount (simple increase of pressure).

Though the IFX-14 has a better base build and does not benefit from lapping nearly as much as the TRUE does.

Anybody have a link to the aforementioned rumors?

an IFX-14 with 6 heat pipes would be nice. id say prolly in march we'll see something. they changed their web site and added "Chassis" somethings going to happen.

My thoughts, exactly.
No mosfet coolers for the IP-35 Pro anyhow, too bad about the fitting on the Maximus.
I warped my IP-35 Pro fitting my TR-U120X on it, as I used the washer trick to tighten the mounting. Removed the washer, now it rotates again. Arrgh:D

They showcased those Cases that function as a giant heatsink before. Similar to the Zalman pure silent cases but cooler looking.

Exactly.

I love my Thermalright 120 extreme, although the fan retention does suck.

I'm waiting for Thermalright to take an IFX-14, move the two sets of fins together, advertise it for push-push, and have a total of 8+ heatpipes.

i'd rather have thermalright revamp their mountings than work on new coolers...

Yeah, make something like the AM2 mount for intel

Didn't they have a bolt-thru kit included in the TRUE?!

I've had zero mounting issues with the TRUE I purchased about 2 months ago. It mounted rock solid to the CPU's heat spreader and didn't move one bit. I will admit though that the TRUE does need some lapping, as does the IHS on my Q6600, but i'm quite happy @ 3.6ghz on all 4 cores with anidle of 35'c-39'c and a load of 62'c-67'c. (no lapping..... only MX-2 compound).

Edit: Oh.... and a 1750rpm Scythe NMB-MAT 120mm fan.

all they need to do is use longer screws so we get some mroe pressure. the mounting isn't too bad it's just we need to be able to go further on the dang screws.
