Hello all
I think my temps are quite high but i may be wrong or it could just be my stupidly hot room.
I am currently running my e6550 at 3.3ghz at 1.39v (1.418 bios)
and a TRUE with a evercool high speed 120mm and a crappy 120mm sunbeam exhaust fan
Idle
Coretemp: core0: 38c core1:38c
TAT: Core0:28c Core1: 25c
Under load runnig TAT:
Coretemp: core0:69c Core1:66c
TAT: Core0:52c Core1:50c
Currently my ambient temp according to a themaltake iflash mini (not sure about accuraccy): 29c
I haven't lapped the heatsink or ihs and this is with the side of my case off
does this seem high or is it just my awsome ambient temp
Cheers

don't use TAT, use Prime95 v25.3 or above

ok so those seem like decent temps then. damnit
why do u say use prime95? thought TAT got it as hot as it could go

Your ambient temp is nearly 30C  so your load temps seem to correspond. I wouldn't like load temps approaching 70C but nothing's going to cook your CPU like TAT or Prime etc.
I'm so glad I live in the UK where the outside air is nice and cool.

considering the conditions it seems to be accurate, TAT if you can use it, does heat the CPU up far hotter then prime95 but for all intents and purposes i dont think you will ever be able to get it that hot under normal conditions. Thats why you should use prime95.

Looks to be well within reason

Ok sweet as thanks for all the replies
Do you think i would get much of a temp drop by lapping the TRUE and IHS? or would i just be voiding my warranty for a very small gain?
Cheers

imo its worth it, i plan on doing it myself as soon as my new parts arrive.

Spawne32: Yeh im kinda of the same thinking but not sure if its not gunna give me a noticable temp difference.
I used to have an 805D and a ninja and i lapped them and dropped about 5c load (was a pretty S**t job too)
If i would get some where in this vacinity then i think i would probably do it.
Also when lapping do u go up and down a few times then spin 90deg or in circles or figure 8's?
ive seen a few different ways and im not sure as to which is the most likely to make a flat surface
Cheers

FYI to all, TAT is an internal intel tool that was leaked, it pushes the processor beyond the lock limited "100%" that your OS can push the processor to. Therefore, while it IS fun to make you proc hit insane temps on TAT it is not a good tool for measuring the heat limit of your OC. That is where prime 95 steps in... :D
I believe (don't quote me on this) that it is used to bin the cpu's before their multiplier is locked at the Intel fabs

SNiiPE_DoGG:
Interesting, i have never actually heard that but i suppose it makes sense as it makes the cpu hotter than any other prog i can find
Cheers
