View Full Version : ryanpgroovy - need help with GOld PC3700 4x256 sticks
I got 4 sticks of OCZ EL DDR PC3700 gold (4x256) in my IC7-G.
Now this wont run even at the the speed the memory is supposed to run 233mhz or ddr466. I have to set my fsb to 225 for them to run without crashing. I know my CPU is good up to 243fsb (intel 3.0).
Now what do I do? I want the memory to run good.
I had 2 sticks of dual ddr pc3700 gold before which run all the way up to 255fsb @ 2-3-3-7. I dont have that anymore.
I like this memory but I need 1 gig of it (lots of video editing happening) and also I want my overclock for my games/benchmarks.
Ryan help me out here. Anyone else as a matter of fact.

Is it quad sticks or 2 pairs of dual.. not all unmatched sticks will work at their original rated speeds in 2, let alone 4 stick configurations. This would apply to any brand of memory
pumping that vdimm up for 4 sticks ?
Yeap pumping the vdimm with no effect... 225 just failed ... 4 separate sticks ... yeah I know there are some problems but thats why I ask Ryan for help .... I guess he will look after me good :)

yeah eva2000 is probably right, i have a quad pack (4 matched) was more expensive but i don't have any problems at all running this ram at DDR466

Hmmmm yeah but how was I supposed to know? They dont say anything aobut this :(
Actually they say:
"OCZ Gold modules have been designed and optimized for use with the Intel i865/i875 chipsets and work best on these platforms."
Test the modules indevidually and see if there is a bad one.Then using your fastest pair see if you can get them stable at rated speed etc.
If you bought them as 4 indevidual modules you really do need to test an pair them up first.

Ok here is what I have found so far:
2 memory sticks (regardless of which 2 - any combination) will go up to 243 2-3-3-7
4 sticks are still giving me errors @ 215 :(
I am using 2.9v for the memory. It seems that there is something wrong when running 4 sticks. Ryan made contact with me so now I am in the process of seeing what is the next step.
I have no doubt at all that OCZ will look after me, since they did sort people's problems in the past. The question now is what can solve my problem? I need to run my cpu at least @ the default speed (233fsb) which the memory has but I need 1 gig of it.
Just for fun I tried default 200fsb and prime stopped after 1.5 hours :(

btw, what vcore you have set for 4 sticks and 2 stick testing ?
Vcore? or Vmem? Vcore is always set to 1.675 (water cooled).
Vmem was 2.9 and 2.8 and 2.7. Didnt help.

from what i found with my 4 x adata pc4000 @255, 260 and 265mhz 1:1 (2.75-2.85v) running adding some vcore (to regular stable vcore) helped stablize it in memtest86 and windows even though my 2.4C could use less vcore stable with 2 sticks
but really i think it's just that your 2 pairs of dual memory aren't matching well
I tried more vcore but still no go :(
What I have found even more interesting is that moving zip/rar files across the network at 200FSB (default speed) will result in some files having errors when 4 sticks are in use.
With 2 sticks I can move all the files I want all day long ... nothing gets corrupted.

are you loosening your timings when 4 sticks are installed ? i.e. 2.5-4-4-8 ?
Yes tried that as well but no luck ...however, even @ default speed (200fsb of cpu) should the timings be 2-3-3-7? Since this is the speed advertised for this memory isnt it?

nope 2-3-3-7 is advertised for dual matched sticks so it's advertsied for 233mhz 2-3-3-7 for those particular 2 sticks you got in dual channel
that's how i understand OCZ and Corsair's ratings.. not the same for GEIL though
If you have modules that in pairs do 243fsb 1:1 at cas2 they are pretty good on an unvoltmodded board.
Do you have access to any other dual channel motherboards? I think your board may be faulty and not your ram.
I have tried them in 2 other motherboards ... one mod volted like mine (how could I get 2.9v then?) and one stock standard.
Same result. I do not think all of the motherboards I have tried could be faulty.
