Hi there I have a Geforce 4 Ti 4200 128Mb VIVO (250/444)from Leadtek, now I was wondering how to get it past 314/589. I want it to go faster without any Vmods, so I was thinking what about if I flashed the bios to an 4600 would that give me any higher mhz on the core/mem. Cos if the 4600 bios sets the gpu and mem voltage higher then It would do also on this Ti 4200 and give me a higher oc . Maybe you guys know something about these voltages on 4200, 4400, 4600 Geforce 4 cards, or any other ways of getting me higher mhz's WITHOUT hardware mods.

I'll be waiting for you OC gods outhere :help:

I dont personally think that would work. They may use different memory chips on the 4600 versions.

First thing you need to figure out is what memory it has on it. Whether it is 4.x, 3.6, 3.3 ns ram on it makes most of the difference as to how well it will overclock. I don't think that the core generator on the card is quite the same on a ti4200 as the ti4600. I could be wrong here, but if I'm right, a flash would not work. What are you currently using to push the overclock on the card now?

before you start pushing it too far, you need to make sure you've got xtreme cooling on both the gpu and ram chips on the card. That gpu will get xtremely hot, and most factory hsf mounted on them is barely sufficient to handle the loads their given now, much less adding more overclock and more load.

Currently I'm using Rivatuner to OC it, and I have a Leadtek (those with the massive heatsinks) but still its getting very warm, even @ stock settings. The memory I don't know yet got to look wich type I've got, the 128Mb are known for there lower OC but still I think this baby can handle more than 314/589. Btw I'm using AS3 between the core and memory to transfer the heat to the heatsink.

You usually flash to a bios of a better model when you feel it will do those speeds. i.e. I got samsung mem chips on my 9700np, like the pro, the cores have pretty much always been good for stock pro speeds on nearly every np, so I tried it, it worked, I'm happy. Further more, The 4200 did have a different board layout then 4400/4600 (read lower qualiyy). Not so on these boards. I would just stick to old fashion OC, maybe look for optimized bios's if you want- I mean why not over specific 4600? Go tried and true.... improved cooling. If you can get it cool, then you might want to look into a hardware mod/vmod. It's fun.
