i am currently in the market for a new comp an was going to get a skulltrail but realized that i don't need that much computing power an the extra money spent on a skulltrail would better benefit my schooling. Will the new x48 chipset support sli or only crossfire? i want to go sli with 2 9800s when released and i will be using the qx9770 proc. intel stats that the x48 chipset be used but i want my sli

My guess is it will be suited for Xfire (quad) as it has been in the past...not that they did a great job of it but it is getting better! Look at AMD/ATI they have a quad board out...Intel must compete-there are a lot of motherboard manufacturers waiting on these chipsets and its already a beaten path!

Hmm whats next...Octafire..no need for a furnace anymore you can now heat your home with your PC....LOLOL

the only way that sli will be on intel is if some1 makes a deal and drops that sli controller and $100 extra onto the price

and the 9800 wont be a new chip it will be 2 g92 so ur just as well of with 2-4 3870 or 3870x2

That is not true. It is suspected that it will be the G90 core, and the G92 cores will become the 9xxx mid range part. Don't recommend anything based on rumors.

the g90 is a 4cluster for the 9600, the g100 is 2x g92, but that might not be the top card that might be a gt or gts and the gtx will be different

also ur guna want to look at the 790i they are supposed to have fixed the memory controller with the ddr3 move and used a synced controller with lots of options instead of the unlinked trash (ddr3 only though)

edit--- and the x38 and x48 are electrically identical so there is no point in the x48

well i want sli now crossfire(personal preference) so i might go with 790i then the cpu should still work on that board as long as it supports 1600 fsb
