Hey guys, I ordered the rest of my parts for my new quad-core rig and neglected some ArctiClean Thermal Material & Surface Purifier. It is supposedly coming either Monday or Tuesday, what alternatives can I use to get the sticky residue off my Q6600 and where might I pick them up?

Rubbing alcohol always worked for me. Ive used 71% and 91% and both do the same job. Grab a coupla Q-tips and youre set.

Ive also heard that wiping most of the past off with Q-tips (without alcohol) and then rubbing the IHS with a pencil eraser gets a lot of the residue off as well.

Both work, the higher the % of alcohol the faster it works. All I ever use is rubbing alcohol, never seen any point in the more expensive stuff.

So some rubbing alcohol would be safe then? I'd better get some ArctiClean for when I do the NB,SB and mosfet HS changes :)

Rubbing Alcohol is ideal, isn't that all the ArctiClean is?

Rubbing alcohol is fine. You could clean all of those fine with it.

ArctiClean seems a little gimmicky to me, I've used all different percentages of rubbing alcohol, they all work about the same.

any hardware store has it, goes by the name goo gone or goo off. it's an alcohol. takes thermal pads off in a second or two.

I use Methylated Spirit and never had a problem, stinks really bad but evaporates quickly and leaves no residue.

Using medical alcohol here, I believe it was 98%. Works perfectly, smells badly, but does the job very well. No need for the more expensive stuff.

I use sometimes Isopropyl 99%, but I prefer still arctic 2 steps cleaner, using Q-tips to wipe it off

Using 70% & 95% Isopropyl Alcohol here... Arctic Clean isn't available here locally :(

I use acetone it works fast and stinks like hell and evaporates very quickly so I can get everything back together and no fear of it being wet. Just dont get it on painted surfaces if you do just let it evaporate and dont wipe for a few minutes.
