View Full Version : 640MB 8800GTS SLI vs 512MB 8800GT SLI - when cpu limited

Anyway, so far 640MB 8800GTS SLI had SLI issues with scores in SLI oc'd being same as non-OC'd SLI scores. 169.21WHQL fixed this http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=171027 but now with 512MB 800GT SLI similar issue occurs with 169.21, 169.09, 169.02 and 169.28 betas.
Ntune 6.x beta was fine on 640MB 8800GTS SLI with 169.21WHQL drivers. But with 512MB 8800GT SLI, Ntune won't let me set clock speeds between 729Mhz and 756Mhz GPU. Any setting between 729Mhz and 756Mhz = 756Mhz GPU clocks. Both my 8800GT cards do 742Mhz on GPU but I couldn't select it in Ntune 6.x beta. Rivatuner 2.06 won't overclock the 2nd 8800GT i.e. set 742Mhz GPU and only 1st 8800GT is set to 742Mhz GPU while second card is still at default 648Mhz.
So going to try using Nvflash to backup my 8800GT OC bioses, edit the clock speed to 742/1836/2000 and flash them just for benching to see if I can finally get them working overclocked in SLI mode. :)

Nice scores and comparison , its remarkable how similar they are (GT vs old GTS) especially in 01, 05 & 06. Wonder why there is a larger difference between them in 03?

actually the way it's setup can't reach behind the cards properly as HR-05 NB heatsink basically sandwiches its fan between it and the back of the first card and SB heatsink I have on does the same for 2nd card. Will test when i move them back to single card on DFI X38 :)

Seems only SM3/HDR score benefited from the GPU clock bump from 742mhz to 756mhz :)

nice improvement, i also notice gpu clocks affect my sm2 & 3 score, and shader clocks affect the sm3 score the most.
This has confused me for a while, but can you explain why on the 8800GT the pixel & texture fillrates are 12.1 gb/s, and the mem bandwidth is 64 gb, but that it beats a G80 GTS which has pixel fillrate of 13.0 gb/s, texture fillrate of 33.1gb/s and 80 gb mem bandwidth? from the GPUZ specs the GTS should win - ive noticed this on almost every gpuz screeny of the G92 cards i see (except the really overclocked ones) just wondering why it is.
