using another fan for 8800 gts 320mb

would it work if i mounted a 120 mm fan on the heatsink by taking off the plastic covering? and would it drop the temps or make them higher, also can i stop the original fan?

it would drop your temps, but it would also turn your video card into a 3-slot beast. the original fan would probably do nothing at that point except create turbulence, so i'd unplug it.
