$150 from my mom to help pay for other people's presents because I was recently fired

$100 gift card to newegg, buying my girlfriend a video card with it.

So far nothing else. Technically got nothing but I made others happy, that's enough for me.

edit:

also, my girlfriend so far has gotten me:
a NICE bathrobe. i wear it everywhere around the house, so toasty
pajama pants
2gb mp3 player

she also has like 4 more presents for me to open. i love her :)

So far all I've gotten is Gears of War for the PC.

I'm more of a giver, anything else I want, I just buy myself.

We have Christmas tonight, so I'll post back, but I'm sure all I'll get is cloths as thats all i asked for.

Because I have to work all day on Christmas I did Christmas Yestarday.

I got:

From my brother: CM 690 and a bunch of case fans

From myself: Creative X-fi XtremeGamer (It was on sale for 39 dollars)

However, I got the most joy from giving...

Got my brother a 30gb Zune, Mario World DS, A Nerf Gun (Seriously most awesome thing ever), and some JVC Marshmellows (V2) for the Zune.

Christmas is about giving, and I definitely enjoyed that part more.

I got this:
http://educations.newegg.com/item/33/127/33-127-219/33-127-219_1.jpg

I actually go this a few days early. Bestbuy had it for 80 bucks and I had a giftcard from 05'. Newegg wants 110 bucks for this card, go figure.

Now I just have to find my spare 1 gigabit ethernet card b/c the 100 Mbps port on my server actually slows down this card!

Corsair Nautilus 500

I wanted this, as I want some decent cooling for my Q6600, which im gonna lap, but i didn't wanna go all out in water and start putting together from pieces, so I decided i'd start with this external unit, that I read many places is a a very decent purchase.

Too bad the damn mail mans are off duty... package got delayed, so they JUST failed to send it thursday night, which would have meant i would have had it friday... Now i gotta wait til thursday, cause of the holidays. :( lapping kit is here friday, so friday it is anyway :(

edit: i actually also got a USB-cup-wamer... to keep tea/coffe/chocolate hot while at the computer... kinda neat.. basicly just an eletric hotplate powered by usb

Phelan, I had to take back a gift this year because the kids' PS2 died. I really fscking wanted and needed that aquarium, but what are ya gonna do.

I KNOW how hard it is to not get anything you want, or get stuff you freaking don't want, or even worse, have to take back stuff you do want (I had to return a birdseye maple Ibanez acoustic two years ago, I nearly cried at that one) but remember it isn't about the getting.

Did you give worthy of getting in kind? Not to sound trite, but I used to do that, I'd give crap and in return I got crap. I dunno what I did to deserve having to take back gifts, but I'm sure it was pretty bad. I would have rather had coal.

I am not sure what manner you took this in, as my intentions are that she works hard, and given the last 4 years she has busted her ass for a Law and Masters in Business degree, passing the Bar, and getting a clerkship for a respectable and highly seated judge, the seeming lack of appreciation for her hardwork from her parents, and having never had a bf that put forth the time and energy I have to be there and support her through all of it, its the least I can do. She is getting pampered, though she doesn't think she deserves it, she is very humble, it is the least I can do, especially for the things she has done for me.

I am not in any way saying I don't give.

Just that if someone tells me they want something from me, and I put time and effort into really thinking about something I actually need, can use, and want..................not to get anything remotely close.

I mean one or two christmases............fine, but I am getting a little fed up.

I mean :banana::banana::banana:, one christmas, my mom got me an RC car when I was a kid...........christmas eve night my dad is down stairs playing with it...........kills the batteries................christmas morning I have to walk down to the Rite aid to buy batteries with my own money, to play with my damn toy............cause he was an ass.

I have alot of resentment about this time of year, and I know all the psycho bable BS about how I should think this, and do that.........well it is much easier said then done.

Before my gf, I didn't do the whole family holiday thing, I have not seen my parents in the same state for 15+ years. I don't associate with my sister, so, its not really much different then taking an animal from one etreme environment, and placing it in another, its not going to know how to act, if any thing be shy/timid, even afraid.

I still can't "relax" and be myself, because the me I know, isn't familiar with this environment. As I have shown my gf things she had no idea about, given her lifestyle and upbringing, I have seen and experienced things I never thought about, not to mention wanted/ or wanted to be a part of because of dating her (ie new experiences in how life is with people that care)

People change us, even when they don't try, though much of that, is also if we want to be changed as well.

I'm actually surprised. I've been asking for a laptop for a while now; nothing fancy, just a midrange laptop to take to school, whenever I travel, etc., and I finally got one. T7200, 2GB of RAM, onboard Intel 950 graphics, 160GB drive, DVD burner, etc. It's an hp, btw, as I'm not a fan of Dell's laptops lately--the build quality just seems to keep going downhill.

Other than that, I got:
Nintendo DS Lite
Call of Duty 4
Bioshock
24" Samsung 245bw LCD
New pocketknife (can never have too many)
And I bought myself the Orange Box and an Action Replay for my DS.

I see where you're going, Phelan. I was misunderstanding you earlier.

I grew up somewhat similar, it wasn't Christmas until little Kayin was crying. Then I grew up, stopped crying and realized that they weren't worth my time. I still hate Christmas, but now I do it on my own terms, at least. My family was famous for giving what I wanted to my brother, with instructions to leave it alone. Or like my first year of college, I forfeited my senior trip to purchase my instrument for college, only when Christmas comes find I got nothing because "I got my present already"-that I paid for.

My kiddo got a "mini" computer, he has been playing with it nonstop, but the kicker is he is learning.

We get the best presents from my mom.

My wife and I got this crazy grocery list organizer with voice recognition and thermal printer.

The thing is whacky. You stick it to the fridge, push a button and say what you want to add to the list. When it comes time to shop, you press "print" and it prints out a categorized shopping list on it's little built in thermal printer.

I have fun with it. My wife will have a legitimate list going then I'll walk by and say "douche" or "condoms" or "tampons" and screw up the list.

My kid got this big ol' USB digital art studio. My mom said she could use it on one of our PC's. My wife and I looked at each other and said "no way." See that avatar? That's Chantel. If I left her on my computer alone for two minutes God knows what would be left. I ordered her one of those refurbished eMachines from TigerDirect for $299 last night. Going to put it in the basement and let her have at it.

I got 10 pairs of socks, and a $10 gift card to walmart...the socks are a bit tight around my foot :(

Both sisters got brand new cameras and cell phones. One of them just turned 18, and she was supposed to get kicked out just like what my parents did with me. Instead, they let her stay and give her a cell phone on their contract.

I had a very long list going. With everything from some AS5 to a 226bw on there. I got socks. The best part of this christmas is how i could talk to anybody, and they'd walk away as if i wasn't even there. Worst christmas ever.

$300 Newegg gift certificate and two weeks of stress while I'm at college and my computer is locked up in my dorm room.

$220 cash from assorted relatives

Seriously having a hard time with what to get with all this. This has by far been the most generous Christmas for me, although I largely have my dad to thank for that as he has worked real hard to let us live a comfortable lifestyle. My family is moving to Seattle and I'll be staying in Iowa at ISU so I will truly be on my own. (Family lives in Chicago, so I could always come home if I wanted to)

So thats $520 to pump into my computer. I am definitely getting a new hard drive as the two 80s and one 120 fill up fast, are a real pain, and with my modded PC-A05 I really don't have room for them. (Right now they are double sided taped to the sides of the drivebays :slap: Other things I want to get are a new Mobo for Penryn, a new better modular PSU, a SATA DVD Drive, a new Video Card, and a 5.25" bay cooler/mount for my hard drive.

Seagate 500gb Hard Drive $110
5.25" SilenX HDD Silencer $27
SATA DVD Drive ~$27
Corsair 520w Modular Power Supply $100
Abit IP35-E Motherboard $90
8800GT 512mb ~$240

So, what should I get/what should I wait to get? I have two weeks before I order anything, so that gives me time, but also makes me anxious.

say no to silenX! dont buy anything from them!

also, why dont you get a samsung f1 drive? i heard they were faster
nothing wrong with ip35-e but there are other options that i fancy, such as the http://clubit.com/product_detail.cfm?itemno=A4854023

one question tho, why are you getting these parts at the moment? i mean, i would wait to dish out money because its not as if you have a horrible computer at the moment, do you have any particular game you want to play RIGHT now?

Well that's the thing, I really could wait to get stuff, but for the first time I have money I can spend willingly :(

My PSU is a Rosewill, and while not bad I am in the need for a modular psu for my case, so might as well get a good one.

I want to be ready for penryn's so I would like to get a P35 board, but then again maybe the P45's are too close.

Video card is what would really improve my system the most, but with 3870 and gt prices so high right now I want to wait.

I'll probably just end up getting the PSU and Hard Drive within the next month and see what pans out in February for the rest.

I don't do god and I don't do christmas.

Last year I got a gift because my Mother was still alive, and she never took me seriously when I told her christmas = consumermas = bollox. Everyone else I know, knows not to send me cards or gifts.

No I am not a miserable bstd, I give love to those I care for all year round. Not just one day a year. I have a child (not so much a child any more) whom I give a gift to for the new year.

Eh, neither do I, but it's a good time of year to sit down and indulge in the holidays (which we get anyways from school and work due to gov. law) - so I just divest the holiday of all the religious garbage and take it as a time to enjoy some relaxing with my family.

Absolutely, I may not exchange gifts or cards with friends but we certainly get together have fun, and take advantage of what free time we get. I tend to eat things I don't normally eat, and lace my coffees with Baileys. So I suppose it is a kind of special time. It's the commercial and religious aspects of xmas I avoid.
