I'm putting a Tiger 1 on my p4c800 and was wondering if I should I use the stock thermal compound or put some AS3 on there. Also, should I just use alcohol to get the old goo off.

thanks! :p:

neyoung I just got through putting my Tiger on the P4C800 I bought today, its pretty rough on the bottom. Alot of deep machine marks, if you have some 600 grit wet sand I'd lap it a little if possible.

I wouldn't use the thermal pad that came on it, defiently AS3 would be better. It just peels off with a razor blade, but like I said you should lap it if it's anything like mine.

Def use AS3 if ya have it...and yes, use rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol to remove the "goo" after you have scrapped it with a razor.

I never went to lapping school, and before you mutter it to yerself, yes I will do a search and see what I find about the topic...but what do ya mean by "600 grit wet sand..."

I know what the 600 grit refers to..but the wet part has me confused.

Its just a type of sand paper, usually for metal, that can be wet to provide a better finish and prevents the sand paper from matting up with metal residue. You can get it from most automotive stores, and hardware stores like HomeDepot and Lowe's. It usually black or grey in color

Ok, I got the HS all sanded down and took the stock HS off of my p4c800 and noticed that asus used a little foam shim to protect those little circuits on the north bridge. Should I try to salvage the foam shim, make a new one, or just go without it?

I havn't used the shim on any of the cw mb's I've got. Just be a careful when you install the hs.

Ok cool I'll go with out too then I guess. When you say that I need to be careful with installing it do you basicly mean to just keep it flat and not to bump those little circuits? Once the cooler is on and latched down it should sit flat and then I shouldn't have anything else to wory about correct?

Yep, try to hold it flat when installing it.
