Hi.

During my bench-session last night, I testet the difference between Service Pack 2 and Service Pack 3(still Release Candidate).

I didn't run the tests several times, so the results are probably not so exact as they could be, so I just post this as a guideline. ;)

Programs used:
3DMark03
3DMark05
3DMark06
SuperPI

Hardware used:
Q6600@3375MHz
Asus P5N-E SLI
Corsair Twin2X 2GB
8800GTX

Results:

SP2:

I've found the same results with my setup:
- E6600
- 8800GT
- P35-DS4
- 2GB D9

I didn't see any improvement in Crysis either (some people said there IS a big difference).

Thanks for the test

I haven't tested Crysis yet with SP3, but I can test some games too(just re-installed XP with SP2) later on. :)

Yeah. Especially 3DMark06 seems to score better. :)

Theres no difference between SP2 and SP3 in performance, coz SP3 is JUST a compiled security update for the O.S most of us using windows automatic update have gone further than what SP3 has

was this fresh install vs fresh install?

Installed XP with SP2 integrated first, tested, and then installed SP3 and ran the same tests.

what about 32M SuperPi

that's very important pls :) as 1M and 32M behave a lot different :)
maybe too late if you already have SP3

Some DirectX files were updated when I installed SP3 so I don't think that's the case ;)

if others get that improvement in 1M SuperPi than it's worth downloading :)

If you say what you want tested, I'll see what I can do. ;)
Re-installing soon again then. Can also see if it's a newer build of the SP3 available. :)

List:
- SuperPI 32M

Btw,
Crysis shows no difference between SP2 and SP3.

Edit: Downloading SP3 Build 3264(running 3244 now). :)

Anything more you want tested?

i haven't noticed much of a difference in games, i've gained about 2fps in certain games like Crysis, but besides that it feels the same, at least it didn't get worse.... VISTA :(

I ran all SuperPI-tests so you can see the difference better. :)

Most interesting. Wouldn't expect something from Micro$oft to improve in performance.

I can confirm... SP3 is faster .... but it wasn't good for my system loading stability.

I'll be looking forward to the final release.

Wel I read that SP1 made Vista slightly better, but SP3 made XP even faster than before... so I think SP3 must be an improvement and a definite keeper for my 2 gig rig...

SP3 RC does increase system/memory performance a bit, I reinstalled my slipstreamed XP SP2 integrated install (been running SP3 for a while before formatting) and noticed my memory performance in different benchmarks and performance in PCSX2 ps2 emulator which is heavily CPU dependant (+ system & mem performance to a minor degree) in a spot I had a save state for I had previously before formatting fps jumping between 120 - 128 fps and now it was only 108~113 FPS, I installed SP3 RC from the MS link in this thread (previously I had installed it through windows update) and voilá FPS was again 120 - 128 fps in that spot. :)

why not slipstream it? intalling it over an existing SP normally give you a performance loss
