After one week testing and benching my homemade 3-Way SLI setup I managed to push it to 103888 points in 3DMark03

http://plaza.fi/s/f/editor/images/3sli_02.jpg

http://plaza.fi/s/f/editor/images/3sli_06.jpg

CPU cooled with my rotary cascade (made by cold_ice) and Ultras cooled with Swiftech Stealth watercooling (provided by Finnish computer shop Jimm's PC-Store)

Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850 @ 4706 MHz
EVGA, MSI & Leadtek GeForce 8800 Ultra @ 720/1760/1180 MHz
EVGA nForce680i SLI
2 x Kingston KHX6400D2ULK2/2G @ 3-3-3-3 1T
Silverstone 1200W PSU
Windows Vista 32-bit
ForceWare 169.25 WHQL

http://plaza.fi/s/f/editor/images/3sli_3dmark03_103888.png

I can't publish the score in ORB (atleast yet..) since 3Dmark03 doesn't detect the QX6850 CPU. I just contacted them about this issue.

(Thanks to Intel, EVGA, MSI, Leadtek, Kingston, Jimm's PC-Store and Elektroni.fi)

Could you tell me please if there is enough room to phase cool all 3 graphic cards? It looks pretty cramped from here for a gpu evap between the cards.

Congrats Sampsa!

With a 780i mobo and 45nm you would do much better :D

No worries though, New Year is soon and with it new mobos will come :)

I'll run the test tomorrow again with E6750 or E6850 and hopefully it will recognize the CPU, or it might be Vista issue.

How about a single person benches LN2 with 3 GPU and 1 cpu container, you need like 6 hands :D

Fr3ak
12-21-2007, 11:41 AM
Or good containers ;)

So far triple-SLI only works with Vista, yes. Chances are, that it will remain that way.

... and yes I know.. the watercooling solution for three Ultras is far away from optimal. I just got the Stealth-blocks, used some parts I had in my office and got them up and running. Too bad it is not so cold and no snow/ice here in Finland where I live so I couldn't take an advantage of it. Rivatuner reports GPU temperature 54 Celcius and the reservoir feels warm. I do have couple of aces in my sleeve reserved for the gfx cooling so stay tuned ;)

Thats the good thing about 03, the CPU is not that important once it's fast enough. It scales very good with higher GPU clocks :D

With a 100% sub zero setup 03 should be flying :)

Doesn't help.. so I guess 3-Way SLI scores will never be offical in ORB since you can't publish a score without CPU being recognized.

Why do it with 03 or are you worried 06 will crash your system? To me that would be the only reason to run outdated benchmarking software.

Can we see some 06 benches with the same specs please.

Why do it with 03 or are you worried 06 will crash your system?

Nice joke.

With such GPU power, CPU is becoming a bottleneck in 06, especially if the board does not allow you to run a Yorkfield like the 680i in Sampsa's case.

Btw 03 is even harder on your system than 06 or at least equal from my experience.

OK I see...
By the way I tried triple SLI too with my Striker and 3X 8800GTX's.
3DMark 03 had incredible benefits from it.I got about 85000Marks with an E6700@3870 and vga's on air @640/1000:D
The others 3DMarks didn't i:D impress me.

meh, 3dmark 2003 is very *yawn*, it doesn't even fully utilize SLI for pete's sake!
no one cares if vista restricts your cpu or anything, we'll be using vista and dx10 by the end of 2008 for everything. nice that you got a high score with an *Easy* old test though, where's the thread for 2006 under vista?

are you sure that's a 8800 ultra in the center? it looks like a 8800gtx to me. all the ultras have that "hump" in the middle when i look at em for sale online.

All 3 are ultras, he didnt have the original fan for the middle card, so he stuck a gtx stock fan on it.

In fairness Tri SLI will dominate the orb but only by the people that can:

A) Afford it

b) Have it provided to show it off

As far as games and everyday PC users who overclock go - it's bad enough to think that you really need two GPU's let alone 3 to run a game.

Most overclockers will bench what they have and this is just another Elitist mechanism to help GPU manufacturers remain top of the performance league.

Taking nothing away from teh scores achieved so far - especially as I know how good you guys are at what you do and have nothing but respect for your achievements.

I just feel (probably like every other person) that AMD and Nvidia are alienating 99% of their customer base by even persuing this multi GPU route to market.

I recall the good old days when two cards was enough and when I was TOP6 HOF with less cooling than most - scores achieved on my everyday gaming system tweaked for benchmark runs - I call that the 'OC for fun' era.

Tri SLI is beyond my reach, in fact SLI (due to a really poor overclocking chipset) is IMHO a complete and total waste of money, time and effort - only golden sample mobo's (that is to say it's a real gamble what you get with your money) are worth some of the money that is asked.

So for the ones who can afford it to keep the HOF status this is the ultimate to bench on. For those trying to get the most they can from an uber gaming machine, this is beyond the mortals.

Having said all that if AMD can sort out proper crossfire drivers then intel chipset based overclockers still have a chance at glory at a reasonable price with a system priced for enthusiasts.

Great results guys, I look forward to seeing the competition between the tri enabled guys at the top.
