View Full Version : T.E.C. on northbridge, everything seems slower now :(

My watercooling previousle cooled only cpu and vid card. Today i`ve made a wb for NB, and used a 50watt pelt to cool my P4P800. Before using the pelt my mobo wont load windows on more then 302 FSB, now i can hit 312, but when i`m in windows it seems like the cache on CPU is disabled. Everythin is SOOO slow. booting on 300 fsb fixes it - everything runs normal. Is this my CPU that linits the OC, or there is a solution?

Thats a problem with the ic7 normaly, but it may be a prob with the p4p800 too. I know that if i boot up my folding rigs at anything past 300 it acts VERY sluggish. Its the same on both of them.

Is there a solution? i used a pelt to get more fsb! so should i take it off, then? It does`nt give anything except lowering +12 and warming up the water... :(

Out of curiosity what waterblock did you use on your northbridge? and how did you hold it down also?

I made it using my own "10min per wb" technique. I`ll show you pics tomorrow if i get my cam back.
I mounted a wb using a chain made from plastic tightening holders. Looks kinda ghetto but works.

Thanks, I'd love to see pics. As I am going phase-change within the month I'll have the watercooling parts available to pelt something.

Guys lets not get too offtopic. What about this FSB problem. Should i remove the pelt?
P.S. I`m gonna go DIY phase change this month too :) Lookin for an approperate compressor rite now.

Well there is no "fix" that i know of, i would take it off myself.

So the only way is changin the mobo i think...

Use SetFSB and set AGP/PCi to like 70/35MHz, using 1/8 PCI divider from the BIOS migth do the job too

macci do you know a safe AGP/PCI divider if i were to overclock with 2 x Raptors in Raid. i don't want to corrupt my hard drives.

I cant run anything but 66/33 or it wont recognize it. Not even 67. Wonder if theres somthing that can correct that.

be carefull, you iwll probably corrupt your array at 35mhz
id test this with an IDE drive to see if you get any gains before risking your sata.

i've tried SetFSB on P4P800 and it didn't change anything. I change clocks in SetFSB but WCPUiD/CPU-Z don't see that anything have changed. The only thing that i got with SetFSB - rig goes stuck when SetFSB is set on very high clocks (4500MHz and more). What is the problem?

I had that problem with Epox 4PCA3+, anything over 300 was very slow, and still do with Windows XP, have you tried Windows 2000?
When I installed windows 2000, I dont get the sluggish problems, also I increased the AGP/PCI to 73/35MHz and now Win2k is 326 FSB stable.

My P4P wont go hgher with SetFSB. It Simply does nothing. Maybe there are other progies like dat that work with my mobo? I want my 310 fsb

La1kr0diZ, could you put a Geforce vga on your mobo and retry?
I think that it may be a vga problem.... ;)
Old Radeon cards and new Asus 865/875 boards are not 100% compatible over 300fsb....
Try and post your conclusion......

Look here (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?postid=188713#post188713)
If you do this, you will be able to see the changes made using SETFSB.

hmm. I remember the second problem... All benches (Sandra, Mark etc) didn't see any changes made with SetFSB too... So no increase at all:(

One thing I have noticed is that after the first bench your scores will consistantly go down unless you reboot. I think it has something to do with your ram being fragmented. Actually they go down and get to a certain point and stay there, but I experienced the same results. I wonder why that is also.

Guys, dat was the RADEON! I installed my fx5900 and everything works good at 312 FSB! Sandra gave me memory score of 6835 and dats great. Though its not great that my favourite radeon9500 wont work an more then 300 FSB... :(
This f*ckin fx works slower then my rad9500 and begs for voltmods and watercooling... 20200 in mark2001 is not serious at all...
Btw, i removed the pelt and there were lotsa water under insulation foam! My chipset spent 2 days being fully wet and everything was just fine :)

I guess its the software bug! Downloading cats3.6 rite now for a test. Maybe they will help. Currently using cats3.3 for benchin. Gotta write an abuse to ATI !

I dont know what causes the problem at ~300FSB with Radeon cards when 66/33 fixed is being used but I do know that increasing the value to like 70/35 or so helps. I've booted up to WinXP with R9800PRo at 345FSB so Its obvious that its not a hardware limitation. Somekind of wierd software bug?
ALso SetFSB works and increases the FSB/AGP/PCI/whatever speed you set it to. The problem with WCPUID, Sandra etc not updating the clockspeed has something to do with WinXP and HyperThreading cos there is no such problems if you install WinXP without HT.
At one point I used a HT enabled WinXP installation with my old 3.06G+P4T533-C rig which had TurboPLL (=hardware version of SetFSB :D) and even if I changed the base frequency (the FSB/CPU speed also went up obviously) the clock speed in WCPUID screen would not change (Mark03 did see the correct CPU speed thou). In Win98 I had no such problems and once I reinstalled WinXP without HT the WCPUID would update the clock properly.

no macci.. R9800pro hasn't this bug...
It's an Hardware limitation of old radeon card as 9500/9700/9700pro...;)
I had the same problem with my old 9700pro... when i put on my ti4800 i've reached 323fsb....
However Asus alert own customers of this..... On their manuals is written therefore.... ;)

SetFSB problem in my case is that performance didn't change, not just clock speed in WCPUID:(
As for 300FSB+ is it possible that BIOS do not really change AGP/PCI clocks when i set it to 70/35?

I found the solution! Its not dat good yet, though it works. The problem is a Catalyst software bug!!! uninstalling catalysts lets me run sandra and stuff @ 312 FSB!!!!
After installing cats, i cannot oc more then 301!
BTW, this problem has some wierd mouse synchronization! If i move the mouse all the time - everything works. If i stop - the system freezes! WTF?!?!?!
