I am going to buy a new card. Please help me. Which should i buy inno3d or alpha dog edition.
Alpha dog edtion has slightly bigger fan as compared to inno3d and has black PCB.
On the other hand inno3d is slightly cheaper than alpha dog edition.

some1 on my cal team has had 3 doa alpha dogs in a row, and thats just bad luck or a problem with xfx on their non $500 cards so dont get one
I don't know, the alpha dog is one of the most powerful ones out there, I personally recommend going for a superclocked evga, you'll get all the benefits of evga's uber warranty, plus its cheaper than the alpha dog and ocs like a mother, only dif between the superclocked and ssc is that the ssc has slightly higher voltage, so that may mean that actually the chips are the same just different voltages, nothing a little modding (hardware or bios) can't fix

@ Zanzabar. That could be a bad luck. Is he still using alpha dog edition?
@ AliG. Evga isn't available here. I have to choose either of the two mentioned above.
Anyone using alpha dog edition? how is it's temps as compared to others? comment.

nope he got an evga and it worked 1st card perfect then he ordered 2x 3870 for his new maximus
so i would do inno3d, and the fan is like 1/16th of an inch bigger it shouldent really make a difference

Now finally i bought xfx alpha dog edition and have to pay extra $30 over inno3d.
The card has black PCB looks really cool. Also it has bigger fan.
Also the temps are good. My idle are 40 and 52 under load.
But now i have a problem. Since everyone has almost passed 700 core clock. So i decided to test it. But i get artifacts in ati tool when i pass 680. But i have tested 700 core clock in 3dmark 06 and it is stable.
Does ati tool shows wrong artifacts because it is stable in 3dmart06.
Should i keep it or exchange it. Suggestions needed.

3DMark stable doesn't mean it's game stable. if you get artifacts in ATiTool, that's usually a good sign that you've OC'ed too far.

I don't see the point of buying factory overclock. Is it because they bin the better chips (e.g. boards OEM'd from Foxconn : P ) or something?

if your max is at 680 then its most likely a heat problem.
Yes, in general the factory OCed ones are binned a little higher.

It is overclocked by default at 640/1600/1900. But I want 700/1750/2000. As almost everyone has reached that. but for me it hangs at these settings in 3dmark06.
At default setting my scores are 10485.Card is stable at 680/1700/1950 and gives 10545 that is only increase of 60 scores..Are my scores low..??
I am not imperessed by the GT. I had 8800GTS 320mb before it and it gave me 10300 scores at 650/1650/1850.
What should i do. Does replacing the card with the same model will work or should i change the brand?
Edit: Temperature isn't any problem because it never crosses 54C under full load.

What's your motherboard and CPU (is it overclocked?) and OS?. 3DMark06 is CPU /system dependent. Besides using synthetic benchmarks, does your 8800GT improve the performance on the games you play, and by how much? Only you can determine if the improvement is worth keeping the card. Your previous card was a pretty good card.
Memory overclocking beyond 1900 is iffy with stock cooling - YMMV.
For what others have reported see also:

For my setup, I have a XFX Alpha Dog @ 702/1728/1900. This on a Intel BX2 with an E6600 OC to 3.46 GHz. 3dMark06 is 12,509. These are my normal game settings,
I've had higher orthos/memtest stable settings with higher synthetic scores (+13,000 3d06). Again YMMV.

that and with these cards that need to be volt modded since the bios has the voltage options locked, the oc'd cards often have higher stock voltages which will allow for a higher oc without hard modding your card

I have E6600 at stock speed.
First of all the problem is that this card doesn't go beyond 680/1700/1950.
Secondly, I can't see any improvement in performance if I overclock it from the stock 640/1600/1900 to 680/1700/1950. 3dmark06 gives me only 60 more points. I also ran crysis demo and it gave me similar frames at both stock and overclocked.
Is there any bottle neck.? any suggestion?

You might want to see if you can OC the CPU to 3.0GHz (see reference below)

Crysis is a really demanding game. While there definitely is an improvement in OCing the card it's not really a huge change, especially in Vista DX10.
Other than that, if you don't like the OC for your card, get a new one and hopefully it'll do better - it's your choice.

XFX has a great warranty
Can you get Point of View video cards where you live?

Ok I'll overclock my proc to 3.0G and will see any change in results.
Yeah the card is not going beyond 680 so I'll have to replace it. I'll get only a single chance, and worried if the new one is even more worst than this..:( but I'll have to take the risk..:)

Nope..only Xfx, Inno3d, Asus and Msi...:(
