alright i've been messing around with my system lately and i am new to overclocking so I haven't done anything really crazy yet, but i finally got a new high for me on a single 8800GT which i thought was pretty decent, hopefully, with some more tweaking, i can get up to 13500? 13600?

does anyone think i should lower my shader clock and increase the core clock?? hopefully to get a better score?

Something is big time wrong...My quad at only 3.6Ghz and eVGA at 716/1790/979 can do this...

ur score is better because of the Quad from what i know, but im a noob so i might be wrong

nah hes right, there must be something wrong, i got 14048 with a E6400 @ 3800Mhz and 745/1850/2000 on my GT http://service.futuremark.com/orb/resultanalyzer.jsp?projectType=14&XLID=0&UID=12486541

^^ how did you get your memory clock up to 2000??? mine can max out at 1425 or something and i only have it at 1060 right now

Are you sure your math is right? In RivaTuner, for example, setting the RAM slider to 1000 really means the effective speed is 2000MHz. If the slider is set at 530 and that's the best you can do, you need to RMA. :p:

ooo i didn't know that you multiply it by two or anything... so then what is wrong with my setup that I am not getting over 14000 on 3DMark06?? anyone have any suggestions to help me improve my score... but look at my picture and tell me if there's anything that looks wrong

even my nvidia monitor says my memory clock is at 1054 not over 2000... is there something wrong with my system?

no thats the normal ram speed stated - in DDR its double that value. Your ram is at 1060, or 2120 DDR (effective). Its like system ram, eg: if it runs at 1:1 FSB 533 its DDR 1066.

i see... so why is it that my 3DMark score is not as high as it could be? is it my system? cause im running at 3.85 on a E6750 so i dont think it's that.. was it my ram? which was A-Data PC6400 but i thought that doesn't have too much of an effect on 3dmark... i have no idea plz help

Good call...Likely your ram timings...Try 4-4-4-12 and re-run

welll i put it at 4-4-4-12, and ran 3dmark, but noticed no difference, but there was also something wrong with 3dmark, because i couldn't submit my score online to check it, but there was no difference at all in fps or total frames hit so i still need to figure out this problem.... anybody who can figure out this solution?

Put GPU ram at 96o and run again, see if there's a difference

That on Vista?

Use 169.13 drivers? (169.21 didnt do much for me), 169.09-169.13 helped though..

hes not on vista, you probably need to do some systems tweaks to improve performance, but they remove stuff, and remember to close everything that your not using, all of the programs, frees up resources, speeding up your system

FINALLY!!!! I got over 14000!!! The problem was the most obvious thing when doing performance tests, I had to go to NTune Config and change the 3D Settings to High Performance rather than High Quality, and i also set my ram at 4-4-4-12 here's the screen shot

i have a question for you guys. maybe its my card or system, but i typically score just a hair under 11k on 06 ~10960 actually.
anyway, i noticed that increasing core clock to 700 with shaders linked only nets me around 500-600 extra points. is this normal? do i have a bum card? i replaced the stock cooler with the accelero and i currently have the tiny swiftech mosfet heatsinks barely doing anything to the mosfets (not thick enough to cover the group of 3, it covers one well, the other two about halfway). is this dangerous to run the card with inadequate cooling for the mosfets? (come to think of it, one stick just fell off :()

i dont know about those coolers considering i have the stock one and have no cooling problems, but what i can say is that you should go to your nTune and change the 3DSettings on your 8800GT to personal preference and all the way on performance instead of quality, you'll gain about 1000 points, which is what i did if u see from my first post in this thread. Also try your settings at 760 core clock and 1060 memory clock with linked shaders. Turn off your vsync as well in nTune, it helps you gain some more frames. 8800GT can handle about that much for my... anymore on core and it restarts on me...

I just read this entire review if you want to call it that, and found it informative...I just installed my new BFG 8800GT OC2 myself along with a WD 150GB Raptor....so I'm trying to educate myself on GPU OC'ing.

here's the link... http://www.tweakguides.com/NVFORCE_6.html

I just ran 3DMark03 at stock GPU settings and got 9760 :P

so educate me guys....look at my sig to see what I'm dealing with and my current OC status....I don't want to fry anything but I want to play all those kick a** games like crysis at highest settings...how high do I need to OC this bad boy and how do I do it? ie: do I first need to OC my CPU more? or what? ......thanks.

^^^ you have a nice setup, at least to me, but im still a noob, one thing though that you should get for your CPU of you're doing AIR is get a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme with a Scythe "Ultra Kaze" fan and you'll CPU temps will drop from 39 to about 28-29... and under load i never get above 52-53... as for your CPU OC... you'll need to everclock it more to get better scores, but what's the stock frequency? I think you can pull 3.3 on your 6400 but you might want to ask around a little bit more. As for your 8800GT, like i said turn core clock to 760 for benching, and memory clock to 1060/1080... but for playing Crysis, i play on all high settings at stock on my 8800GT(675/975 just like yours) and my CPU at stock at 2.66ghz, and i pull minimum of 45FPS and i hit 100FPS on certain parts. But that's with AA of course. And as long as your ram is at 4-4-4-12 your fine (that probably wont effect you too much because it didn't effect me really)

when that Thermalright HS is installed with the fan, I guess like other HS, you can point it in any direction you want? which way do you have the fan pointing? I should also buy the fan clips for the HS right?

P.S. did you end up reading that link I sent you?

I just tried the 760 & 1080 settings and my system stalled on the first test for 3DMark03....is my BFG a lemon?

no not at all, i had to do alot of tweaking until my system could handle that, trust me, that setup crashed on me PLENTY of times, the most stable for me was core clock at 754 and memory clock at 1054. Try those and tell me what happens

yea i read this link, but for tuning for video card you should use RivaTuner or ATiTool, not nTune, nTune is to only adjust the performance or quality bar and to turn off vSync. And yea you can point the thermalright in any direction. I have it pointed out the back so my other Scythe Ultra Kaze pulls it straight out. Works really well. it comes with two clips for one fan, kind of difficult to get on though

I will use RivaTuner, I just thought you might want to read it to set up the various performance and 3D options on the BFG....now, I'm only running my CPU at 3.15GHZ, should that be enough to OC this with those values you gave me? or is that my limiting factor?

To be honest, if its not the limiting factor......I doubt I'll buy the Thermalright, even though I'd like to, eventually I'm gonna purchase a Quad Core, so then I'll look into it...I'm using the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro, and it has worked nicely, but now that I'm running 3 HD including the Raptor, my cpu temps and system temps have gone up to 42 on the cpu and 35 on the system...I've even moved the hard drives to the slots for floppy drives in my case, so that the area where the air is being pulled in from the front is clear, but that made no difference....to bad this GPU doesn't have that encased fan the bigger cards and ATI cards have...

I need to buy a soundcard cause I hate the onboard sound, so that is my next purchase...

well i use those clocks sometimes on stock, the CPU shouldn't limit you that much for overclocking the GPU. You really dont need the Thermalright unless you're really worried about the temps. Have you cleared up all the wiriing throughout your case? That'll drop temps at least another 5C. It did for me at least. You could always buy a Thermalright for your GPU. They're supposed to be REALLY good. But I don't know if it's necessary. What temps do you get right now on your GPU? Load and no load?
