I currently have a belkin BELKIN F5D7230-4 that my dad bought and its rubbish.
Keeps crashing and I cant fix it.
Tried updating firmware, changing channels encription and loads of other things. Ive decided its a POS and its going to be fixed with a hammer.
So what should I replace it with?
Im not that bothered about cost or speeds I just want something reliable that I dont have to reboot every few hours.
There seems to be allot to choose from and its difficult to find decent reviews, so mopefully some XS experts can help me choose.
Thanks guys.

The D-Link DIR-655 is rock stable and currently the best N router. The hardware inside is also much more powerful than their past products and can handle anything you throw at it. Plus the menu system gives you all the options you'll ever need, probably more than other brands.

I'll second the DIR-655. It's expensive, but you get what you pay for. 802.11n (non-mixed mode) performance is stellar.

Linksys WRT54GL with third party firmware like Tomato. Does everything you need. Signal strength might not be the best though if you have a big residence.

I tried a belkin G router this week, and I found it worked fine, but it had some problems that just drove me nuts.
main one being, I couldnt get it secure, and keep it working.
worked fine when unsecure, no WEP or anything...
but that just drove me nuts.
the control scheme for the router is just too tiny to deal with, and the options are unclear at best.
after 1 day, I just got sick of it and took it back.
I dug out a very very old wireless B router I have from Linksys, that I could never get to work.... finally did some homework on it, downloaded thier "easy connect" software, and it worked flawless.
secure and everything....
just not as fast as I had hoped for.
its fine for 1 computer, but 2 or more, it slows to a crawl.
but atleast I got a router working till I can figure a good one to get.
personally, I am avoiding DLink since every review I read, constantly says the same thing. its not a good router, if your not well versed in how to solve probems on your own.
that doesnt sit well for me, since when it comes to networking, I am a caveman. I want it to just work. I dont want to tweak anything it mess with settings. I just want to get it working and leave it at that.
so personally, I am leaning heavily towards a linksys router.
they are easy to find here in alaska, and thier easy connect works great.
no belkins for me.
however, I do have one thing to say about belkin.
it made my internet speed better somehow.
I went from a constant 2855/540 without it, to a constant 3100/555 with it.
it had a feature called speedboost, which the linksys also advertises.
no idea how it works, but I like that.

This Linksys one is good, but it's definitely not cheap

(I've always found Linksys to be the easiest to setup, update, etc.)

I don't really know of any wireless router worth recommending, but this wireless G AP is excellent. The range, stability and speed are beyond expectations.

X2. The ability to install third party on this router is invaluable. You have handfuls of firmware to choose from and great communities which support the firmware. Price is great.

Bought the Linksys 600N from ZZF with my 50 dollar holiday promotion from Paypal came out to 200. If it dies, Linksys will get a call from me. Hopefully I do get what I paid for.
