i have an evga 8800gts 320mb and this mod says use a 1kohm vr. my question is can i use a 15kohm or a 50kohm vr instead. i plan on going from 1.24-1.25 stock volts to about 1.4 or so.

Unfortunately 15k and 50k are way too big.
Using a VR of such rating(s) would result in a very crude voltage increase per each turned degree on the VR's dial.

yes largons correct, i have used a 20K and its ok for the first part of the range, then it becomes very sensitive. I was stuffing around for about 5 mins yesterday trying to get it to sit right on 1.42v. Id recommend a 10K, it wont raise your default vgpu much when you solder it on, and should give you better control than the 20k im using. Maybe even a 5K would be ok.

ok thanks again i only have 3/ 15kohm and 1/ 50kohm vr right now and dont have the extra money for sumthin lil as the holiday is here and money is gone. i will try 15k maybe but my multimeter is dead now:(. so i have to wait. thanks all who has helped at least i got a few replies:)

:toast:

edit: i have no problem dialing the voltage in i had to do it many times and got what i want everytime with volt mods. so i will give it a go.

the 15k will be fine, it will give you better control than the 20k im using and that should suffice. just adjust carefully.
got any tv/stereo remotes? take the batteries out of one for your dmm i raided mine the other day cos i left my dmm on overnight :)

i wish i could rob batteries out of the remote. but mine take that damn 12v battery and that sucks there not cheap. tryin to think of different way to read volts but not a clue as of yet. i tries hooking it up to mu 12v line from psu and that dont work. gives wierd number but i kinda figured it would work like that. i could put 12 AA together and make a ghetto battery back that i think would give 12v's. lol dunno

running a dmm off a psu, now thats original  hope you get a battery dude. sucks having all the gear, knowing what to do but no dmm.

I doubt the 15k VR will turn out very good for the vGPU mod...
But if you do apply it make very, very small turns at a time and notice that the combined resistance will plummet quite quickly causing vGPU to literally skyrocket as soon as you achieve the point where the tuning starts to make an effect.

You can't run a DMM on your PSU and use it to measure PSU's voltages, a digital volt meter cannot measure the voltage of it's own power supply.

its modded now with 10k and works flawless. i just use small turn very slowly and im fine. i need the mod were i can go higher volts cuz it seems to shutdown around 1.45 give or take a few. ive read all the threads here and they dont have a solid mod that works for sure. so if anybody knows of the mod(i think its ocp mod but not sure) i would appreciate it very much. thanks.

edit: heres some pics. excuse the mess:) im just workin all the bugs out and testing right now dont care how it looks at the moment.

edit 2: also got a little over 13k in 06 and a little over 21k in 05. dunno if thats good but i think it is for what i have.

largon has given you the right answer and you just roughly shown your discontent Instead of gratitude.

And now you would appreciate it very much. Sorry, but you do not deserve my help.

It is called the OCP (over current protection) mod. from what ive seen on my card (1.56v idle no shut down) you may not need to do the OVP mod, just OCP.
There is no confirmed working OCP mod yet for the G80 8800GTS. Im woking on it (with help) at the moment, and when im sure it works, i'll let you know.

Dont hate on the forum too much though, people are all very individual, you'll see all types here. You'll eventually get the answers youre after ;)
