I just want a concensus to the size of everyones partition for vista. I am going to dual boot xp pro and vista 64. I made xp 45gb because I will not be putting a lot of info on that partition. I was wondering what you thought a good size for vista will be? I was thinking around 100-120gb. I have many large programs to install like adobe CS3, office 07, etc that take up a lot of space. I want to future proof it for size. What is your take on this?
I have seen some people say 20gb. Do you not put anything on this partition? That seems so small.

20 gig is the absolute minimum you'd want to install Vista on, and that'd also require you to install your programs on another partition.

For every day use, 100-150 gig will probably be ok. 200 gig might be worthwhile if you're doing a lot of image work.

i have a 333GB for vista + games and software and a 598GB for installers and docs/media, then some back up drives

on my 333 i have 100G used with like 5 games and photoshop vs2008 and other utilities, vista likes to have its software and apps on the same drive/partition

I have 3 partitions on my main drive and only one on the other. My vista is at 50gb as I am only putting the os and several small apps on this drive. All the other apps are on my other separate drive. My problem is that somehow the vista drive keeps filling up and I don't know why. I can't find anything that is adding up to 41gb that it says it is full of. Where could it be?

Do you have system restore on?

Yes, I think so.

Yes, I think so.

Turn it off and see what happens. Then turn it back on again.

It gave me a couple more gb. I have a file in windows called winsxs. It is filled with amd64 files. 95% are these files and then some other. I have an Q6600 on and intel board. I did some easy transfer could this be some of my old computer. I only took pieces at a time. I never did the whole thing but could something have gotten in? What does anyone know about this folder? If I would make my partition larger (cause I"m a little worried now) to about 90-100gb will I lose my boot file because I am dual booting. If so, it's not too hard to do a repair in vista though is it?

I use a 36GB Raptor for Vista (which is currently sitting at approx 12gb, half of which being winsxs). Only other things I put on the drive are 1 game and general productivity software. And of course benchmarks/OC tools etc ;)

Does the job so far.

What about SP1. Can you install that on another drive? Is your winxsxs filled with amd64 stuff? If I am putting all my apps on another drive how come it still keeps losing space? That's my big question.
