so anal about video cards. They don't make you play the game you're playing any better. I've been playing on a 2600pro and have been kicking arse. I understand you want the picture to look perfect but I don't see shelling out 300+ for a video card so a building could look a little bit better or a player having a bit more detail a good investment .

FYI: I am going to buy another video card just as soon as the 8800GT or the HD3870 hit retail prices and are available :)

I will put my flame suit on !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

because we like having the most bang per buck we can get and plus playing on higher resolutions really needs faster cards to maintain high settings

i'm in a Call of Duty clan and the differences between good video cards and older video cards are apparent when i look at other members' screenshots of CoD4. i play multiplayer with all settings fully maxed (except AF, which i run at 4x) @ 1680x1050. the game looks almost photorealistic. some other members with old video cards have to turn the settings way down so the game looks like a cartoon, and even then some of them are stuttering along at 30 fps.

to you, the differences between low settings and high settings may be minimal; but to me, Anti Aliasing, Anisotropic Filtering, Specular Map, Dynamic Shadows and Lights, and Depth of Field effects are all like music to my eyes. not to mention that fact that my framerate never drops below 60 fps, so i always have smooth, fluid motion that allows full immersion into the game. if you only play Counter-Strike, you don't need a high end video card. but the newest, most demanding games on the market now have a lot of killer effects that only a graphics powerhouse can deliver.

what can i say? i'm a geek and this is my favorite hobby. the money spent is worth it to me.

Gotta have something powerful enough so that you can have enough view distance to see the enemy plus get good enough fps to actually be playable ;)

But really, my X1950XT does perfectly fine right now. Most games max or near max, only the crysis demo I had to run medium (and still looked pretty darn good for medium too) and a few things in cod4 I can't have totally maxed. But still, stuff looks good, definitely playable - I'm happy. I guess I timed getting my card right, getting close to 2 years old and still holding its own :D

Why do people buy nice cars? Nice homes?

Why? Because they can.

This thread fails.

people buy newer video cards so they can play there favorite games at the settings there meant to be played, or so they can render any other kind of visual medium better. Some buy for better photoshop rendering, others for 3D art creation. What are you trying to get at?? try playing any newer game today with your old video card and you wont be able to, except at low settings and low resolutions.

You have to be kidding with that question IN THIS FORUM,

I had a choice to just get the ultra with the step up program from evga and just forgetting about sli, :shakes: could save on watercooling blocks and everything.

But what's the fun of that, if there isn't some parts "in the mail" or waiting to be upgraded, Some components laying on the bench waiting to be fuzzilled then I might as well go play the xbox.

So i am excited to get my 8800 GTS 512 and play with it, :stick: then get a second and try SLI for the first time..... :wierd:

Plus our other build is with ATI and crossfire, :yepp: so i guess i am just asking for trouble/extreme fun

luckily i have been saving for this for a while, and it's part biz :fact:

Here's to all the programmers that design in notepad, the hardware geeks that remove all stock anything just to squeeze another Mhz or degree out of it and most of all to those of us who love to get their toys first and "be where no system designer./ mod manic has gone before"

But with that said, man I have seen those friggin ultra cooling pots using LN2 and yesterday someone posting cooling the Nortthbridge with one too, to you guyzzz/Galz..... :cord:

THIS BUDZ FOR YOU!@ :toast:

eSports is all about stable fps with good image quality. I am playing CoD4 with 30-70 fps and well you can forget about playing in the "top-class". Constant loosing of frags because of too low fps and sudden "pc lags", not nice. My friend has an E6750 and 2600XT, he got like 40-80fps on 12x10 with AA and AF on. But that's not enough. It needs to be all the time above 60, I prefer at least stable 100fps to have good gameplay.

Yeah sure you can pwn with lower settings/pc but you still would perform better with faster pc.

Also I belong to the part of people that get sooo much excited about new hardware and oc'ing and playing around with it. I have too been saving some money for my USA trip after xmas to empty the shelves :) P4 with 6800GT isn't a gaming machine anymore ^^
