Above is a link to the memory I plan on geting, it is a bit cheaper then the kingston 2 gig set but for some reason the timming doesn't seem that hot, is it just me?

Next is the mushkin option, http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=17989&vpn=991130&manufacture=MUSHKIN

its much more expensive but has a timming of 3-3-3-8 and I will be ocing them by a tad

Corcier slightly more expensive then the kingston kit http://www.a-power.com/product-1260-303-1 how is its performance?

Naturaly I'm just trying to get the best bang for my buck, I'll be geting all four to put into an asus PC-DL Delux MB thats been OC'd from 2.8 to 3.2GHz and don't want to end up with POS ram!

Thanks for any advice on what to get!

I'd like to allso state that technicaly my board only does PC2700, but by using PC3200 it should leave me the ability to OC and use tighter then normal timing or no? Seems to work with the current ram that is 2*512 OC'd with some what tight timming!

Thanks again.

The tmings are abit hgh.

However you should be fine. :)

Very high IMO. I bought some v.bad Samsung RAM and it was 2.5-3-3-5 1GB PC3200 but 2.5-2-2-6 at PC2700.

Hello Xeon,

Not sure if you meant to put this in the general hardware category or not since this is the OCZ Support forum section. I see you are asking about OCZ ram, but it seems to be more of a "which should I purchase" answer from OCZ staff will be obvious ;)

Well I was going to ask specificaly about the OCZ but then I decided I would add the other options as comparison.

Whats with the high timings? if it is used in a PC2700 slot can I safely set the timing to 3-3-3-8 with out issue?

timings don't matter per se, what DOES matter is the latency

and when you decrease the switching speed, the latency at the same timings increases linearly.

and on top of that, rated specs mean nothing, atleast not on XS. Here we clock and push the suckers. While theories vary on the degree of clocking(I for one like RAM that clocks best within manufacturers voltage specifications because I like warranties) so basically what i t comes down to would be the chips in the RAM and not the BS ratings that are placed on the RAM.

Ryder, tell him a good kit of RAM with micron -5B F or samsung TCCX as I haven't followed DDR1 lately and you're the guy to ask considering who you work for...

Yes the do seem quite high. But it also depends on the system you will have them running in. Back in the day when BH-5 were godly i bought myself a pair of 3700EBs from OCZ to put in my P4 northwood HT system. I learned from experiance that timings didnt matter as much on that platform and increasing the clockspeed and memory bandwith did more for me performace wise than tighting up the timings. I still have that old rig running after over 3.5 years (now as a spare). The memory did great at 250mhz (500ddr) as did the 1:1 ratio. I know this was not the case with amd systems back then and tighter timings did the trick there. Correct me if i'm wrong guys, it has been a while :D
