What did you use to tighten that so much to bend the mounting plate?
Im assuming you had to bend the plate to make it peel like that, or you just got a dud.

Who did the chroming on that, and what the hell did you do to it? :p:
Finger to tigthen it, exactly like the manual said and all out the box from new!
It'll be going back as its not worth anything at all.

I think you got a dud. My plate on my fuzion is bent from the force and it isn't peeled at all.

Wow, that's probably a dud... my mounting plate is fine!
Definately a bad chroming job. If you know a local chroming shop you can have them rechrome the mounting plate. Another good option is to have it replaced.

I still don't know/understand why my Fuzion isn't chrome...

"Finger tight" is subjective at best. It's like me telling some newb, who's never heard one, how loud a D12SM-12 is over the net.
I just want to know if we're going to see Pete constantly trash the FuZioN from now on like dnottis and NickS continually trash the DDC.

I doubt Pete will continue to trash the Fuzion but the latter is definitely true. ;)

They used to be made from 2B finish stainless, they are now made from chrome plated mild steel because it is signifigantly cheaper.
The older stainless ones are far superior, although maybe not as much "bling".

Guys with the stainless plate;a little metal polish a lot of elbow grease and it's more deep shine than you eyes can handle, make s the chrome one pale in comparison.Well worth the effort.
Mine now looks like a mirror in the case, sweet !

Damn,
You cranked the hell out of that thing. I don't even go to the spring limiters all the way.
Tighten the thumb nuts in an X-Pattern using small increments at a time to eachthumb nut. This will ensure the block has even pressure. Once you reach the spring limiter with each thumb nut this will
apply the block with the recommended force needed on the processor.
There is a spring limiter included with the springs to prevent over tightening and processor damage. The spring limiter will
stop at about 12 turns from the initial thumb nut contact with the spring.
Tightening the thumb nuts past the stopping point of the limiter may cause damage to your CPU or motherboard. Pay special attention when tightening if the limiter has made contact to the thumb nut (approx. 6 turns).
Guess you didn't pay enough special attention. Looks like this one is on you. Says nothing about finger tight? Can't imagine cranking down a block that much. Your lucky the CPU and retention bracket didn't come popping off instead.
Sorry it happened to you, but you need to be a little more carefull and RTFM:)

You could always sand it down and spraypaint with a matte black finish... sexy :slobber: ;)

I think that is what I would do before I went through the hastle of RMAing it just because of that.
I fortunately have one of the stainless steel ones.

hey, watch out for those little chrome chips, they like to fall in places and cause shorts on the mothorboard and especially on the graphics card. i had a close call after i drilled a hole in my case. i even used a damp paper towle under the hole i was drilleing. but i still got little shavings on top of my 8800GTX. caught them before i gave anything power...

I think I might order myself a custom laser cut mounting plate for the Fuzion, made from stainless steel of course, and polish it.

Never ever liked it. I got it as i hate the GTX off Gabe. Though it is better looking in all copper!

I'm about to kick it's lilly little ass yeah and will a fair bit too, hehehe.
I did 6 turns then it went tight, like whoa nelly mega tight. When i said finger tight i mean i used my finger only! I'll probs pull it and pick chrom off or make one at work out of some harmonic sheet mettle we got. That stuff is used to make blades that go in land gas jet turbines for powerstation, its heavy, its hard and dont bend at all, the weight of a small bracket alone would hold the block on

Fair enough...but that does leave me with a question that's got me scratching my head. Why didn't you wait the extra week or so for the EK Supreme or go with a copper topped GTX?
Oh, and NickS, your complaints about the DDC no longer have a leg to stand on as your cryin over the DDC 2's and the DDC 3.x aren't dropping dead, so please go mumble quietly in a corner next time. :p:
