I am trying to get CrossFire to work with my X38 board and 3870s in Vista32, however, after a number of Catalyst uninstalls, then driver sweeper, then reinstall 7.11, it still doesn't seem to be working. GPUZ reports CrossFire disabled, and in Crysis, it detects that I am trying to CrossFire and goes into MGPU rendering mode but the FPS stays the same as it was with 1 card. Anyone got some suggestions?

is Crysis the only game you're having trouble with? there is a Crysis Hotfix on ATI's website that you need to download if you want to play that game with CF enabled. their official 7.12 driver will be out within a week and will fix it so you won't need the hotfix anymore.

aside from that, some things that might be causing problems are Fraps or RivaTuner running in the background (i have no proof, but i think it might cause problems for some people. if the video driver recognizes those programs as 3D apps., CrossFire won't apply on your games until you reboot.)

Not sure on this as I'm not a CF user, but I thought I saw the there are issues with CF and DX10 Crysis?

Have you tried it in DX9?

Anyway, I'd try the Crysis in DX9, not running Riva/FRAPs, and playing some games you've seen CF benches on to establish you have it set up right.

CF is largely dependent on hard coded game profiles, so MrBungle is right about needing that hotfix for Crysis.

I read on Rage3d that the 7.11 drivers have a "universal" profile in them that works to various degrees, but you'll want to test it with games you know work first.

Didn't install any other game to test but gonna try 3DMark06 and see. Is it normal on X38 that GPUZ reports CrossFire disabled? I just did a fresh windows reinstall with Hotfix and it's still showing disabled.

GPUz shows CrossFire enabled and I'm on an Asus Maximus.

It shows enabled under Vista32?
Seems like I figured out the issue. Forcing Crysis to run in DX9 mode fullscreen enables CrossFire, though still quite buggy.

gpuz reports the 38x0 as cf disabled no matter what combo u use since u have to have a 3d app in full screen open for cf to kick in

zan thats not true man, GPU-Z shows my crossfire rig as enabled when their isn't a 3D app running.

Koei do you have the the microsoft vista multi GPU patch installed? It has nothing to do with the ATI hotfix.

Apparently Vista has a problem with many multi GPU setups... heres a link to the fix here (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/945149)

Thanks for the info but I already installed that hotfix. It seems like atleast for my case, it is true that GPUZ just won't show enabled. I was able to get CrossFire to work in Crysis though, but seems like it's still pretty unstable at the moment that the framerate sometimes drop to ridiculously low rates which makes the game hardly playable. Running in a windowed mode automatically snaps it out of CrossFire mode and makes the game playable again. This is also confirmed by some other people running CrossFire.

Mine does the opposite as it is.

P5E.
2x 3870

CrossFire shows as disabled in GPU-Z

Second (possibly both) core clocks down and performance is hell when running fullscreen, run in window and it's all good (World in Conflict)

Crysis runs, but I don't know if it uses crossfire.

Please dont type stuff you have no idea about. Your statement is so FALSE and misleading:down: Im on a Maximus Formula and GPUz shows crossfire enabled 2GPU's. This is me on the "other" forum scroll down to post #12 http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1252264

My buddie is having the same problem with his abit x38 3870 crossfire setup.. I've got the same exact system and crossfire works perfectly.. on his you can enable crossfire and the computer ofcourse has the drivers installed 7.11 shows possible 4 displays in desktop properties, everything indicates it should work. Haven't checked with GPUz, but when we bench (FEAR and COD4) it gives single card performance. we're gonna reinstall windows and 7.11 drivers tomorrow and see if that fixes it. I had a hunch it was the CCC so I uninstalled then installed again but still no effect.

I've read else where that if you install with a single card, make sure it works correctly then install your second card. thats worked for people with 1900's.

i installed both my 3870's at the same time and didn't experience any problems at all. i went straight to 3DMark and scored over 13K (i have a non-uber CPU). i think there must be some kind of software conflict causing all this. a lot of people are reporting the same problem. FEAR and CoD4 are obviously two games that scale very well with CF, so his frames should be almost double.

Well i did the same, both cards at once and have had no problems xMrBunglex.

update on my friends. We reinstalled XP pro sp2 and took the single card route this time. First I made a backup image with Acronis then I installed drivers, net 2.0, then ccc. once that worked like silk I installed FEAR and bench just to know 100% the single card was good. Then installed the second card and pressto had working Crossfire.. here's some interesting info. my system is
Abit x38 QuadGT
e2180 @ 3.0Ghz
2Gb of Gskill at 938Mhz 4-4-3-5
WD caviar 16mb cache 7200rpm drive
crossfire sapphire 3870's 830mhz/2400mhz
his is
same but e6750 @ 3.2Ghz and raptor drive and 2 more Gb of ram.

my bench of FEAR is the following
min 45
average 132
Max 326

his is:
min 42
average 138
Max 486 and one bench we got like 540!

clearly shows the e2180 is holding back on the max!
q9450 in the future.

bench settings are 1280 x 1024 everything max and filters at 4x.

Vista 64
MSI k9a2
2x 3870 , crossfire shows disabled in GPUZ
If i disable or enable crossfire in ATI control center. I'm not really seeing any difference in games at all. Altho in some I see some weird sync issues which I thought was caused by crossfire.

Any ideas? :s

Is that link the only place I can get this hotfix? They want me to submit a ticket or something, there's not even a link :S

i have the same problem with vista 32 and 64 crossfire shows disabled in GPUZ
cf works fine in xp, but vista not much, most games run same or as much as 50% slower than 1 card but bioshock go from 22 to 44 fps 2560x1600 maybe 7.12 will fix

Same problem here too. I am running Vistax64. I just switched from winxp32 and it worked fine with GPUZ showing xfire enabled and disabled. I will run more tests later regarding the patches/hotfixes to see if I can make sense of this issue under VIsta x64

ATI better hurry up and release 7.12 (bugs fixed)

It seems like there are too many of us experiencing these issues for this not to be wonky drivers.

And so 7.12 is released yet it doesnt seem to activate the "Crossfire Enabled" Thingy in GPUZ. Oh well.

When I run the crysis GPU Test it says DX10 X64 MGPU

MGPU means Xfire and SLI, right? Does this mean that Xfire is working?

looks like gpuz dosn't detect sli eather in vista
7.12 vista 32 looks alittle faster at 2560x1600 i'm getting
about 100% increase with cf in bioshock and lost planet
hl2 games about 20% increase, but guild wars still getting a 40% decrease,it maybe they just don't have the crossfire profiles for vista yet that they have for xp
but cf is working in vista 32 on the newer games i have
older ones are hit and miss
