To the pros!

I've decided to go to water cooling with my first built system. I have been reading up on volt mods for my board and have a pretty good idea of all the "many possibilities." So, being a noob, what are some basic volt mods that I should definitely and carefully consider for being able to OC with my new water cooling system?

my bios is at 1005 and I am currently having the typical difficulties for this board with air cooling (i.e., getting to 200 fsb.

I will gladly offer more information about my system then my signature has. And, thanks for all the help in advance.

kokoro,

PS. This forum rocks because there are so many awesome people on it that know there... uh poop! :toast:

Gr8 site hosted by sysfailur that has all the vmods for a A7N8X board and how to do them...complete with pics.

You need to definitely do the Vcore, Vmem, and Vdd mods if you are serious about o/cing the A7N8X.

I have the same board, Rev2, as you can can hit higher than 200fsb.

I would use SMD grabbers for the vmod as well if this is your first vmodding adventure. Some of the pins are small and if you solder 2 pins together by accident while soldering your resistors on, then you may have some serioud problems. Also, the best part about using the grabbers is that if you fry something you can remove the grabbers and then ram your board without any evidence that you modified it.

You will most certainly need the Vdd and Vmem mods as they are crucial to this board. I cant get above 200 without them.

Also, I do not know if its just my board, but I cant hit above 205 in Dual Channel. I have to use one stick and it HAS to be in dimm3 for some reason or I get errors in Memtest86. I am thinking that the memory controllers for the first 2 dimms are either bad or that the voltage isnt dispersed equally between all 3 dimms.

You will to look at your psu voltages as well to make sure the 5v and 3.3v rails are solid if you plan a serious o/c.

Good Luck and may the force be with you!

BTW, if you board the Rev2 that is labeled Ultra 400 and has 400MHz - fsb on the box?

***Update for ya to let you know how important the vmods are to the A7N8X boards***

At the moment, I am running 225fsb and using Memtest86 to see if I get errors...so far so good. Remember that this is with one stick only. If after the vmods you are able to get above 215 or so while using 2 sticks and in Dual Channel, let me know so I can work on getting abother board.
