View Full Version : HD3870's (cf) and MCR-220.
Hi All,
I am putting to new machine together and i am looking at a x38 board with 2 HD3870's in CF. I have not been able to see how much heat the 3870's output so i am not sure if 1 MCR-220 will suffice.
I have a MCR-220 and a MCW60-R not being used, so i was going to use the MCR-220, 2x MCW60, Ek multiport and a DDC with a DDTC-01 top.
Will this suffice?

this cards TDP is at roughly 105 Watts maximum when at stock speeds.
I assume you are planning overclock with WC, in that case I wouldnt push the mcr-220 that far.
Have you considered Duorb coolers? its what I will be using on mine, and they perform great.
i have seen the Duorbs, they are nice. but i am keen on w/c :P

MCR-220, according to Swiftech's site (http://swiftech.com/assets/images/products/MCRad-220/MCR220QP_HD_VS_FR_SMALL.PNG), can handle 300w @ 10c coolant/ambient delta at 1GPM. Swiftech used 80cfm fans.
Hes going to be getting a lot more than 1GPM in that loop, so his heat dissipation is going to be more than 325w. Using slower fans, sure, heat dissipation is going to drop, but not much.
I would say have a decent fan on it, Yate Loon mediums, and you should be fine keeping them at stock speeds.
Hmmm, Martins flow estimator puts it in at 2.13GPM/
Maybe i should get a new g92 gts and just cool that on a p35 board..

if the TDP is 105, and you double that for 2 cards thats 210. Now unless you volt mod the card, and you just crank the gpu, your TDP wont rise that drastically.
So im guessing around 250W on both cards. The MCR220 should be able to handle that.

Not everyone voltmods their cards. As long as each fan on the rad moves north of 60cfm, you should be fine.

Why not, the new atitool that will come out will be able to soft-voltmod it.
I think the MCR220 will be fine. Like Polizei said: with some decent fans you're fine!
ok, well i might try it, depends how much it costs in the end :P
