I have finished putting my pc together a week ago and just noticed this today. I took my Mushkin ddr2 4mb kit from my old build which always showed up as 4gb in my older vista 64 bit install. This seems like I amusing a 32 bit OS but im not. I'm using vista ultimate x64. This is so weird. If anyone has any thooughts or solutions please post.

Make sure anything in the BIOS labled "Memory remapping feature" or something similar is enabled.

New build? Is one stick not pushed all the way in?

As said above, make sure Memory Remap is enabled.

Can you get into BIOS and see how much RAM its showing ?

Did you do memtest ?

In the bios and memtest it shows up as 4gb. The ram is confirmed working on my old build and both sticks are pushed in fully. Is there anything else I can try?

Did you confirm that memory remapping is enabled? Make sure any "memory hole" type settings are set correctly as well.

The Evga 680i has no such option in the bios. I have had 4gb's show up in vista x64 before i reformatted, same board. This has to be some type of window's problem. I found another person with the exact same problem w/ similar hardware here. (http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/t249603.html)

Same thing for me, new install of Vista 64, and it shows 3.12 GB. I downloaded the hotfix, KB 929777 and also saw the memory remapping in my Bios. I enabled it, but Vista restarts just before the welcome screen it it's enabled.

Well, I tried everything again, and I'm showing 4GB of ram now. I took ut 2 Gb's and went into the bios, found the memory remapping option. This time it said on the right side to disable with 32 bit os, enable with 64 bit os. Don't remember seeing that last try. Anyway she finished booting up this time and all is well now

Not that this might help much, but I did a fresh install of x64 with 1 Corsair Dominator in (1GB stick) and then upgraded after to 4GB Crucial Ballistix. Shows 4096MB in System properties. I havent checked for any BIOS settings (or had to modify any). Mightve already been enabled though and Ive left them alone.
