WE WANT MORE PERFORMANCE!!

I was talking about this with my friend today and the conversation turned to upgrades..

Shortly therafter we realised that well... We have nothing worth upgrading to! The GPU market has been stagnant for over a YEAR now! 8800s released in september and there still isn't a better card (discounting ultra, it's pretty much the same card..)

Then there's Yorksfield. Impressive by all accounts but not quite a leap ahead in performance terms, is it? around 50% at most when overclocking is taken into account.

Is there any reason why hardware should be more powerful at the moment?.

And you don't think companies already know this? Of course companies are working to offer better performance because that's the only way they'll end up making money. Everything has its purpose, the penryn cpus for instance, as designed to be a roadmap to nehalem with native octo core using 45nm manufacturing technology etc. K10 I'll agree failed miserably to do what it was supposed to, but it is better than k8 at least and everything single penny will be helping amd right now, though I'm not quite sure how they intend to pull back into the black when they are not going to use high k and metal gates with their 45nm process and instead are going to stick with soi (which was a bad enough mistake on 65nm)
