last night i insulated cpu socket...sprayed rear of board..neoprened..greased socket etc, however after staying up till 2am couldn't get vapo to fit (slight mod needed) so put my coolit eliminator back....trying to do a bit of ocing today..its a no go! i raise my NB volts up too about 1.7 and temps are in the 80's-C the NB is water cooled. So could the insulating have caused this?
thanks

Unless you took off the NB heatsink and insulated around the core of that I don't see why it would.

You sure your board has an NB sensor and that it's being read correctly? a lot of apps read an other board sensors as NB by mistake... and insulation could definately have caused the temps to rise elsewhere on the board.

Just my 2c.

didn't insulate anywhere other than cpu area...
temps im getting from the bios's monitoring can't see a raise anywhere else motherboard temp (bios) says 37c its just NB i can't recall seeing it previously as high as 83c...i have put 2.3v through it before and had no problems

 Not really sure then man, if you didn't insulate the NB then I don't know why it would shoot up like that. Think maybe you knocked the block around and lost your TIM contact or something?

could be...also the board is slightly curved due to insulation and rear socket adapter pushing cpu area away from mobo tray, could this be causing a bad seating for the NB HS?

If the bend is near the NB heatsink (or block... you said it was watercooled so I'm not sure) it could. If you're using a heatsink with those plastic push springs, a slight bend can pop one corner of the heatsink up and ruin your contact. A block held down with screws would take a bit more, but it could be possible.

Wouldn't be a bad idea to reseat it, when you take the block/hs off look at your thermal paste... if it's all mucked up then you know where your problem was. Reseating a northbridge block takes like 2 screws, I'd try it.
